    9800GTX+ or HD 4850?

I've got an ASUS P5n32 Se Sli Deluxe motherboard with a Nvidia 7950 graphics card. Time for an upgrade so I started thinking about an 8800GT (as recommended by PC Gamer continuousy). This has quickly become a 9800GT and finally a 9800GTX+.

Now I've read amazing reviews of the Radeon HD4850 but it seems to me that the 9800GTX+ is right up there with it now in terms of price and power. I'd prefer to go down the NVidia route because of my (as yet unused but who knows) SLI capabilities.

As far as I can see the frame rate difference in something like Crysis is something like 2fps at my monitor's natural resolution of 1440x900. In terms of playing ability that's not much.

Any thoughts? Incidentally I'm going for the Q6600 CPU as well in this upgrade.

If you're sticking to that motherboard, stick to Nvidia cards, the 9800GTX+ is a great card, same goes for the ATI, but by using that board, you will benefit more from the Nvidia card than you would from the ATI...
Nowadays, Graphic card's aren't only for playable framerates ^^

I think only the 9600GTs benefited from some nVidia chipsets that were automatically overclocked slightly if you increase the PCIe bus frequency.

I would go for the 4850 myself, the AA performance alone is worth it over the nVidia cards atm.

    Re: 9800GTX+ or HD 4850?

Considering that at 1440x900 it doesn't matter, why?
90% of the time you'll be maxing out your graphics and both of thoes cards will still have head room.

So go for which is cheaper/you like more.
Personally I'd not disscount the 9800gt as it's cheaper than both and you'll not notice that much differnce.

Can't go wrong with either, so if you have a leaning towards nVidia then go for the 9800GTX+

    Re: 9800GTX+ or HD 4850?

I've just built myself a system with the 9800GTX and a Q6600.. if you're more inclined to go with nVidia (as I was), I can assure you that you won't be disappointed at all by the 9800GTX. The card is absolutely fan-freakin-tastic. I have yet to try Crysis, but I have yet to find anything that maxes out this card's capabilities. I have no experience with the Radeon equivalents but I can't see them being much better for such a great price.
