    New TFT Advice needed

My mate is after a new TFT. He has a 17" TFT now, a Dell and wouldn't mind staying with Dell. He is after either a 19" or a 20" Widescreen TFT. He wants it to have a DVI connection as he has a Graph card with DVI. Now, these are the ones he has been looking at:

Dell E207WFP, Dell UltraSharp 1908WFP. One is a 20" and the other a 19". His budget is low so can't go any higher than £140 - £150. Above tfts are in that budget, just.

Are they good TFT's? One better than the other?

He doesn't want to go any higher than 20".

Any help / advice on the above monitors would be great/ Ta

Not a big fan of the budget dell's, they always seem to be a bit of a let down.

Something like this might be quite nice

If he is willing to go to 22" these are supposed to be good to

Hi,check out type of panels ie NT,VA,IPS.
VA & IPS panels are more expensive, for good reasons IMO.Dells(& other makers) more expensive monitors tend to be these type.
If its mainly for Gaming NT can have faster response time(at least quoted, still worth checking out peeps opinions who have the monitor thou, whatever panel). But VA at least have good response times now.
    Also if gaming & a expert FPS gaming,check out Input Lag.If large,some notice,some don't.

The S-PVA and P-MVA panels are an ideal halfway house between the more expensive IPS panels and the cheaper TN types. If you want any colour accuracy IPS,MVA and PVA are far superior to any of the TN types. The newer IPS,MVA and PVA panels also tend to have decent responses times too. However most(if all) the sub £150 monitors are of the TN type which makes them fine for general usage and gaming purposes but not for image editing!

The budget Dell's do not tend to be that good IMHO. They also tend to use different companies to make the LCDs for their cheaper and midrange monitors. This means that the image quality of one batch of the same model can vary in the next batch! Samsung at times does the same thing! It is called a "panel lottery" and has annoyed many people who have ended up with a lower quality product than what professional reviews have tested!

There are better monitors available for the same money as the two Dells. Having seen the quality of budget Dell displays they are not that great. Reviews tend to mixed too plus of course the problems of panels they use. Companies like Neovo, iiyama,Hyundai,Samsung and Hannspree all make far better budget monitors than Dell can muster. If anything the E207WFP is better than the 1908WFP according to user and professional reviews.
