Which HD monitor with analogue inputs?

    Hi

First a bit of background, i play RTS games line supreme commander and would like more screen space than my current screen can offer me. Therefore I want a full HD monitor. In addition I have just moved into my new accomadation for uni and have found that I have no longer got theroom in my beedroom for a seperate tv for my ps2. I would theerefore like a pc monitor that has scart, component or composite inputs. Next, my desk is not huge and this means I can't just go out and get a 32" HDTV.

Doing an input search on scan I have found the following options,

    http://scan.co.uk/Product.aspx?WebProductId=721743
    http://scan.co.uk/Product.aspx?WebProductId=772061

here are reviews on overclockers for each screen
    http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showpr...-056-HY&tool=3
    http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showpr...-024-DE&tool=3

My question is do you think the dell screen is worth the extra or is there another screen I should be considering?

    My requirements are
    1080P
    scart, component or composite input
    DVI or HDMI input
    less than 32"

    thanks in advance

Why dont you get an LCD TV, one of those 20,22 inch Samsungs? Or a 26" Rose? What are you looking to spend?

Re: Which HD monitor with analogue inputs?

I've got the hyundai monitor and couldn't be more happy with it, only thing i'd trade it for is the warranty that dell offer!

afaik dell offer a swap warranty where they give you a monitor in exchange for your faulty when they take it away. hyundai on the other hand operate by a more normal method of sending the monitor to be repaired and then they ship it back to you (they arrange for a courier both times)

dell also have a no dead pixel warranty on their top of the range models, meaning that if you have even one dead pixel they swap you for one that hasn't.

other than that there's not really much else the extra bit of money offers you over the hyundai. i personally went for the hyundai because the dell wasn't out at the time, but also because the glossy finish matches my ps3 and keyboard. mind you does gather dust easily.....

oh and both do 1:1 pixel mapping so they're both great at displaying images at resolutions below 1920x1200 i.e no stretching of the image to fill up the whole screen

what happens when you connect a lower resolution signal like that from a ps2?

Re: Which HD monitor with analogue inputs?

if there's no pixel mapping then usually the monitor just stretches the image so that all the pixels are working. with 1:1 pixel mapping, say the resolution is 640x480 then only the central corrensponding pixels are lit whilst you get a black bar on the edges of the screen. pixel mapping is a good thing and definitely something to look out for in a monitor, reason being that tv's and monitors have different aspect ratios. a widescreen tv is 16:9 whilst a monitor is 16:10. consoles are designed primarily for connecting to tvs so the resolution of the output isn't going to match the aspect ratio of monitors

Confirmed. MY 2405FPW made a nice *BANG* when I switched on after coming in to work last week after 6 weeks off. Phoned Dell at 2pm on the Thursday (took probably 10min on the phone including waiting) and at 8:45am the following day I nice guy came along with a 2407WFP to swap for my dead 2405FPW.

    - You do get a reconditioned monitor, not a new one (don't care - it's completely unmarked, has no dead or stuck pixels, and it's a step up on the 2405FPW, without the overly warm tones I find on the 2408WFP).

    - I did go through one trip to the Indian call centre, but the guy who ended up dealing with me was a Scot.

Hi,did same couple of weeks back(not same prob thou),2407 i got looks mint(could be just one that as had revision updated to A04,exsisting stock when HC version came out,who knows).
Just contacted Tech Dept & talked to Scottish guy(knew is stuff & excellent communication)who was great, sent him a few pics of prob etc.New monitor next day with no hassle.
I'd had 2405 nearly 3yrs,so it was sad to see it go.

    Cheers BOB
