    Crossfire question...

so I've done an assload of reading and am somehow more confused than I was to start with. What *are* the rules for Crossfire?

I have an HD4870 (512Mb) and am considering teaming it with another card - can I make use of a 1Gb card, or would it need to be another 512Mb? They'll both be sitting in a Rampage Formula, so disregard my P5B in My System.

There you go - short, and to the point.

You can team it with a 1GB card, but I'm pretty certain it wouldn't give you any advantage over a 512mb card........you could run it as primary card, then when out of sli mode it would perform better though.

    Re: Crossfire question...

only 512MB would be used on both cards at max since data is mirrored

Exactly, but am I right in thinking that on the odd exception where crossfire is causing problems, it would be better to have the 1GB card as the primary and just drop from crossfire into single mode?
