Anyone have a monitor with a Diamondtron tube?

I just bought a new Iiyama pro 454, 19" CRT for £260. I rread many many reviews, all highly praising it. I had a 19" Sony which was fine, but its max refresh rate at 1280 was 85hz and at 1600 was a vomit inducing 75hz.

The Iiyama runs 120hz @1280 and 100Hz @1600, but there is a major problem - the focus.

I cannot believe how bad it is! I recieved the monitor on Friday and have given up adjusting it - it is the worst I have ever seen. Games are fine but text is unforgivably hard on the eyes after a few hours. My Sony's focus was superb, and only replaced it with the Iiyama as even 85hz puts a strain on my eyes.

I'm going to contact Iiyama on Monday morining and hope their on-site warranty covers Belfast.

Wondering if anyone else has had any experience with Iiyama or their products?

Hi btw, long time reader first time poster ( As far as I can remember )

I have an old-ish Mitsubishi Diamond Plus 73, which uses the Diamondtron screen. Iiyama use Mitsubishi's screens, so I guess this is appropriate.

I have never had any problems whatsoever with this monitor, but obviously it's a slightly different model. Judging by the replies in the link you posted it could be something fairly common with your model, but it is not something common to ALL Diamondtron screens.

I had 2 diamondtron screens - one pre-NF and one NF and both were VERY very sharp and crisp - I think yours must be faulty if it's not sharp / crisp.

    Thanks.

I'm hoping that its maybe a problem with just a certain batch of these monitors, as it only seems to affect the uk markert, as many searches have shown no other countries affected.

    Later.

i've been using an IIyama vision master pro 413 for almost 3 years now. it uses the diamondtron M2 with high brightness feature. the first one delivered to me was faulty. i think it was the same as yours; the focus was bad and there was a red line at the top of the screen. but then i call for replacement n they sent me another one which is i think the best 17" crt i've ever seen. good luck to u

    I have a (2 month old) 454 Pro & it is excellent.
You know that there are 3 settings Text, Picture & Movie that will affect this?
I would hazard a guess that you have yours on Movie, either that or yours is faulty.

Have Iiyama Pro 454 & 514, no probs at all, only settings I had to adjust on delivery of each were the brightness & contrast. As BUFF said, try adjusting from the text setting.

Mitsubishi Diamond Pro 930SB here. Picture perfect quality all the time. If i put the refresh up to 100 at 1280x960 it makes the pic blurred so you might want to lower the refresh rate.

I'm pretty sure that Mitsubushi wouldnt use Trinitron tubes

As far as the text 1/2 movie and picture options go, I had tried all of them already.

However I had only tried adjusting the picture from the "Text 1" mode as this was the best looking initially. But after your posts I though I should try adjusting from the others, and sure enough. starting of from the picture setting, tweaking the moire and convergence has given me a good picture - although I still think the focus was slightly sharper on my Sony. Its still not what I would call crisp though, text still looks slightly shadowy despite all adjustments.

Suppose if I want sharper focus a TFT is the way to go, however I still think that a good CRT blows most TFT's out of the water when all things are considered - for the time being.

I have a Taxan with the same tube. No problems with the picture for me, it's excellent for the £150 it cost me!

try it with a better gfx card and try a higher quality vga cable....
If your using a gf2 gfx card there might be some mods you can do to it to improve the picture quality.

Afaik this probably isnt a problem with your monitor.

Using the supplied non-captive cable and a Gigabyte 9700 pro.

I think the Iiyama has different circuitry to the Taxan, hence the extra (probably not justified) cost. Does the Taxan use the u2 tube?

How would I tell? It's an Ergovison 985, maybe a websearch?
