    HD4670 or 9600GSO?

    Hi,

I am getting a new graphics card today and wondered what would be better, the HD4670 or 9600GSO? Primarily I use my computer for 3D work and gaming.

I don't have a blu-ray player and my budget is limited, benchmarks from various sites give different feedback so wondered what you guys thought?

    Cheers
    Jon

The stock GSO is beaten by the 4670 in the Hexus review (which I assume you've read) The 4670 runs cooler idle but higher @ load. Also the 512mb vs the 384mb will help when bumping up the res.

£60 for a 512 or £70 for a 1gb (although that probably won't make much/any difference) whereas the GSOs are about £66ish. I have an 8800GS (so the GSO) and it's fantastic but if I was buying now i'd get the 4670.

    Thanks for the reply

Yeah its been a hard call with good arguments on both sides of the fence and varying benchmarks by respected testers.

Its to replace my 256MB X1950 Pro, so I hope that the 4670 would be better than that in the long run.

Yeah I would go with the 4670 as well, it doesn't require a 6pin PCIe adapter (unlike the GSO) so will be one less cable to worry about, of course you could spend your £60 and get a 3850 512MB http://www.ebuyer.com/product/148212 which if I remember correctly out performs the 4670 in most things (Hexus reviewed a 256MB card against it and it was about equal performance the extra 256MB of memory may just give it the edge) but it is more power hungry.
