    Upgraded Needed? :S

    Hi people

This is my first post on this forum and I am in need of a little bit of advice from the people who know.

I currently have this spec for my main system

    Intel Core 2 Duo E6750
    MSI P35 Neo-F Socket 775 FSB1333
    Corsair 2GB Kit (2x1GB) DDR2 800MHz/PC2-6400 XMS2 Memory
MSI GeForce 8600 GTS OC Edition 256 DDR3
    Arctic Power 700W PSU
    LG L194WT 19" TFT Monitor

I was wondering if there is any point in me upgrading my graphics card to a 4870. I'm not looking to buy a new monitor so i wont ever use a res above 1400x900 while gaming. I play alot of FPS & RTS, like Supreme Commander and Mass Effect.

I am thinking of geting WAR and deffinatly getting RA3 will my system be able to give me good graphic setting in these games or shall i just part with my hard erned cash and get a 4870?

Thanks for taking the time to read my post any help would be great

At that res I wouldn't have though a 4870 would be worth it. I'd suggest a cheaper gfx card and upping your RAM to 4G

    Corsair Air 540, Asus Prime X570-Pro, Win 10 Pro, AMD R9 3900X, Corsair HX 750, EVGA 1080 Ti, 2x Corsair 2TB MP600, 2x 2TB WD20EZRX, 4x8GB Corsair Dominator, custom watercooled (single loop, 2 rads)
    Corsair 550D, Asus X470-Prime Pro, Win 10 Pro, AMD R7 2700, Corsair RM750i, Asus GTX780 Poseidon, 2x Sammy 500GB 970 EVO, 2x 2TB Seagate Barracuda, 2x8GB Corsair Vengeance, custom watercooled (single loop, 2 rads)
    Synology DS918+ w/ 2xWDC Green 3TB + 2x Seagate Barracuda 6TB, N2200 w/ 2xSammy 1.5TB
    backup:
    Corsair 500R, Gigabyte GA-Z97MX Gaming 5, Win 10 Pro, i5 4690, Corsair HX750i, Sapphire Fury X, 256GB Sammy SM951 M.2 (System), WD SE16 640GB, 2x8GB Corsair Vengeance, Corsair H100i

I'd say the 4870 is probably a bit too much for the res you're looking at. I would probably go for the 4850 or a GTX260.

Either card would be an excellent upgrade from your current one, plus you could spend the left overs on another 2Gb RAM.

    Re: Upgraded Needed? :S

I don't think the GTX260 and 4850 should be bandied about in the same recommendation, the price difference is enormous (4850 £103 and the GTX260 £165, both prices from Scan) I would say look at the 4850 or the 9800GTX+ (£118) I would probably go for the 4850 though. You will see a huge boost from your current graphics card. Oh and a couple of gigs extra Ram wouldn't go amiss but is far from essential, but at current prices it would be almost silly not to

Thats what I was thinking. Im going to wait till i can afford a new monitor till I buy a new graphics card now.

The RAM upgrade was already on the books along with an upgrade to my HS and my case fans.

Thanks so much for all your input guys. I know where to come in future for any advise

    Thanks again
