    New graphics card

Hi all, I'm planning to flog off my 8800GTS 512MB to my m8 who knows nothing about computers for a cool 100 quid so I was looking to get a new card. Just wanted to know which card people prefer - 9800GTX+ or HD4850? Is there another card people would recommend?

I've got an Abit IX38 QuadGT motherboard but I don't care about crossfire. My 8800GTS at the moment is super quiet and i fookin love it, so wanted to know if anybody has noise issues with any of these cards?

Oh and does anybody know if this 9800GTX+ is any good? - http://www.scan.co.uk/Product.aspx?WebProductId=853557

    Thanks,
    Guppy.

    Re: New graphics card

Personally I would go for the 4850 £103 on Scan then if you need more power in the coming months another one in crossfire will be possible. I know you said your not bothered about crossfire, but with the performance between the 4850 and GTX+ so close it would be foolish to discard a potential upgrade path, if you were looking to spend more say £200 I would actually be saying get 4850 crossfire it blows everything up to and including the 280 out of the water (apart from in those few games where crossfire scaling is lower than normal, for example Crysis).

Oh and duping your friends isn't a very nice way to behave, I admit you would probably get £100 for it on eBay but selling it to a friend when they could get a 4850 for the same money that is just a bit low! Rip off people you don't know all you like mind

Thanks Webby, I can see what you mean about the radeon option. Do you know anything about how loud the cards are?

    Re: New graphics card

Well as if to sweeten the deal yet further the 4850 is on Scan Today Only for £97 but only until lunch tomorrow!

Noise wise I have not seen a review of that particular card but would expect it to be a reasonable sound level probably near silent at idle and then louder while under load but then you will have music/sound effects to block it out. You can always install Ati tray tools to control the fan speed anyway if it is too loud for you. But I wouldn't expect you to have a problem, if it really annoys you you can always swap the cooler for something else for £15 at a later point.

Webby, what considerations do you have to make if you want this possibility of adding another gfx card for crossfire? e.g. mobo, space, card cooler

I am leaning towards the Asus P5Q and HIS IceQ 4850, but this card has an exhause that takes up a slot at the back - would it be possible to crossfire this also?
