    Not-so-bargainlicious '1Gb' ATI card...

I was just browsing eBay and found this listing - I was all set to report it as misleading, when I realised they had just about covered their back-sides in the product description. eBay also expect you to explain the issue with about two short sentences, so short is the character limit in the report description - see no evil, hear no evil....

1GB ATI Radeon HD2 HDMI 1080p Low Profile Graphics Card

At the time of writing, I see three suckers have coughed £55-60 for a (unless I miss my guess) HD2400 or similar.

Looking at other auctions, the standard tactic of this trader seems to be to advertise gfx cards with high memory and bury the chip details in the description in the hope it is missed. It's just not cricket...

    How is it misleading?
It doesn't state it has any GPU other than the one it does have.
If anyone buys a Graphics card based on VRAM alone it is their fault if they get a rubbish card.

    Re: Not-so-bargainlicious '1Gb' ATI card...

It says at the top clearly: "Radeon HD2400 HDMI Low Profile Edition"
He even has a section explaining Hypermemory: "How Does ATi Hypermemory Work - PLEASE READ"

    What's misleading?

Perhaps 'misleading' is the wrong term. More, misdirection.

    Ok, I missed that entirely

A few lessons I've learned in this:
    1) People will buy anything on eBay, and pay with a kidney.
    2) I have to read product descriptions more carefully...

you have to be careful on ebay misdirection gets more buyers for those unscruperlous vendors - as long as your sure what youre getting and youve checked around you should be ok.

    Buyers beware!!

Oh my! I must get me one of those 9.6Ghz computers he's selling.

    http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.d...m=120308753151

Yes, he is going into detail in the listing but it isn't aimed at the likes of us. He's clearly setting out to confuse non PC literate people.

That PC is a worse deal than PC World, and the terms for faulty returns are appalling.

    Check out the Negative feedback:
Misleading item title, says 1Gb card actually 256Mb & poor comms over delivery

    Re: Not-so-bargainlicious '1Gb' ATI card...

Very misleading IMO. He should not be quoting theoretical hypermemory figures, nor adding up the frequency of all the CPU cores.

Purposely done to lure non-computer literate people into parting with their cash.

I am surprised he doesn't add the size of the Windows swapfile to the memory capacity of the PCs he sells.....

He should definitely be reported to someone for the "add-up-all-the-cores" crap; If each wheel on my car is moving forward at 70mph, does that mean my car's going at 280?

    Re: Not-so-bargainlicious '1Gb' ATI card...

I've been reporting this guy for the last few months (if it's the one I think it is). Keep at it - ebay usually remove the listings but take no further action until the number of reports gets above a certain proportion of items sold I think. If enough of us report, over a long enough period, he will be held to task.
edit: ah no, this is a new user name. Same chap though blatently - shows reporting did work!

    Re: Not-so-bargainlicious '1Gb' ATI card...

Ah, I feel better - I just reported almost everything they have on sale - '1Gb' ATI and nVidia cards, 'Sony'-branded PC, and a PC installed with Windows but not including the discs (as a former PC builder, I particularly hated than little con because it allowed competitors to undercut us).

Edit: I think the 9.6Ghz PC got pulled - it's not a live listing anymore, and nobody bought it.

Edit2: I changed my mind on reporting because covering himself in the description does not excuse a misleading/misdirectional title...

God - this is a total joke:

Just because it's got a Sony DVD writer, doesn't mean you can mislead people into thinking it's a Sony-built PC.

    Shh. Don't give him ideas.

He's clearly targeting people who know nothing about PCs
