    HD on 26" TV?

Hi guys, is there any great improvement on a 26" TV by switching to Sky HD? If I get a Sky+ HD box and decide to discontinue the HD sub, can I retain box & use for normal Sky viewing?

26" is really a bit too much on the small side for seeing the improvements HD brings, unless your sat with your nose almost touching the screen

The Sky+HD box comes with a 12 month contract for the HD sub, so you need to pay that £10/month for the first year regardless of what you do to your main sky package.

You actually own the Sky box from the day its installed.

    Re: HD on 26" TV?

Unless your 26" TV is HD ready then you will see no benefit at all from having the HD service (apart from getting a Sky+ box).

And as Shaithis says the box is yours but you will have to pay the subscription for a year after that you can cancel it and keep the box.

    Re: HD on 26" TV?

Ok Thanks for the advice. At the moment, Sky want £75 for the HD box & £99 for the ordinary 'plus' one, which is what tempted me. After the initial 12 months I could continue, altering the dish to accept Freeserve, without a monthly charge. It was more the question of whether there is much difference on such a small TV, which shaithis has cleared up.

Lightbulb Re: HD on 26" TV?

If you're going for a new Sky box/subscription, it's well worth opting for the Sky+HD box/subscription over the standard Sky+ box/subscription (IMO) - even if you do only have a small TV, given the special price they're offering it for just now

You won't always have a small TV... and you'll be able to benefit from the full HD channels immediately, without having to pay for another new box and the additional installation fees that incurs, whenever you upgrade to a bigger HD-TV

    Re: HD on 26" TV?

i have sky HD, and i have tried it on a 22" screen, and even on that small of screen it makes a hell of a difference, its nothing compared to my 42", but u can see the difference, so i think it would look great on a 26", as for the actual box, sky HD offers 2 times the memory when recording in standard definition, this is a big plus, when i had sky+ i found that i ran out of space very quickly, all in all i would say that u should go for the sky HD, well worth the money, even if there is only 25 HD channels.

    Re: HD on 26" TV?

With a standard Sky+ box the recording/playback features are disabled when you no longer have a Sky subscription. I'm assuming they don't do a similar thing, locking out the ability to recieve freesat HD if/when one cancels the subs?
