is this generally a good monitor?
also i would liek to add i am using it for watching a few films, surfing the net. with an onboard graphics card..
Wrong forum for asking about hardware
And why not get the 24" one I posted, it's cheaper and you gain extra connectivity but lose a small amount of desk space
edit: does your onboard graphics evven support that resolution? some may struggle
i want the extra 200 pixels. it looks better for surfing the internet no?
and what did you mean lose a small amount of desk space.!?
120 actually
And losing desk space because of those pixels, if you're using it for films those extra pixels will be black anyway so you dont really gain anything.....
And it makes NO difference, those 120 pixels are vertical, not horizontal, you'll scroll most pages anyway...
And please learn to edit your posts, there is a button that allows you to do this so you dont have to double post.
It makes such little difference
and search about resolutions as you obviously dont understand what I am explaining to you (and I cant be bothered/will do a bad job)
finlay666 (04-10-2008)
1920x1080 = 16:9 aspect ratio (what most films are shot in)
1920x1200 = 16:10, so you have black bars (at the top and bottom) as the film is shown at 16:9
for browsing, you would have slightly more vertical space... but it is negligible.
so for gaming the extra can be handy.. but for films it can be annoying...
but just get the cheapest resolution![]()

I will try and explain what I imagine Finley was trying to get across,
The are only extra pixels (120) in the vertical axis (the horizontal is the same at 1920 pixels) if you are watching films in 16:9 widescreen (1920*1200 is 16:10 widescreen) then those 120 pixels will be black anyway. When surfing the net how often do you think those 120 pixels will allow you not to scroll? I would expect the list is very slim either you would still need to scroll on a 1200 vertical pixel screen or you wouldn't need to scroll on either, this is because websites which you need to scroll on probably have a lot of information (forums, news sites etc.) so its unlikely that the extra 120 pixels will make a difference, the pages you don't need to scroll on are designed to fit a standard resolution (it was 800*600 probably 1024*768 or the wide screen equivalent now) and the vertical axis is not going to be larger than 1080 in those cases.
As to which is better I am if full agreement with you more pixels is better but I use my PC for gaming (among other things) where those extra pixels can have tangible benefits, if web surfing and watching films was my intended purpose then I would probably not worry about the extra 120 vertical pixels, especially if the was a large price difference.
Thanks for the replies. although stubbron as i am, i like the look of the other one. and there is something about that model that i really like. i don't like stand glossiness etc. so i just bought this instead:

should come on Tuesday..
its more for work than watching films etc. i do like the largeness of the second one. i mean i went into pc world and saw the size of the 24 inch iMac and really fell in love with it..
and Webby thanks for teh explanation!
also i just wanted to know were the specs of the one above better than the £202 one?
Which was the £202 one can't see a link to it in this thread.
The E248WFP is a 5ms response TN, I assume the other was TN as well so it will be down to the extra features and the panel quality though Dell usually use Samsung panels so they are all good quality.

i am hoping i made the right decision.
Why are you explaining to me what I couldn't be bothered to explain to you? Are you lacking in mental skills or something?
I already have a 24" 1920x1200 screen, more per surface area means jack sh*t on that level really, as most things scale, and for what you were looking for the 1920x1080 one would suit you fine.
I suggest you stop being so immature (same for my bargain thread for the 1920x1080 Dell monitor thread where you flamed me for pointing out that icon sizes can be changed on a pc desktop....... when you were threadjacking and asking a STUPID question)
In fact I cba to even try to help, you are so stubborn in your ways if I showed you a black square you would probably argue that it isnt a square and it isn't black.
