    ATI HD4670 Drivers?

    Hi,

Does anyone know if there are any new ATI drivers coming out soon that support the HD4670?

I am having some instability in games since installing the new card, and in fact just on the desktop I had a BSOD in Vista due to an ATI driver. All ATI drivers were fully uninstalled and cleaned before installing new card.

I am using Catalyst 8.8 that came with the card, Catalyst 8.9 says unsupported card and there is no HD4670 option on the ATI/AMD website.

So just wondered if anyone heard any rumours of new drivers soon?

    Cheers
    Jon

Incidently using Furmark and GPU-Z, I could hear the GPU fan on full power and it was hitting 95 degrees c, is that too much? The fan doesn't come on often while playing games etc, and I have a well ventilated case, at idle the temp is around 55 degrees c. Just wondered if that seemed normal.

    Re: ATI HD4670 Drivers?

95°C is not hot for a GPU, well it is hot but well with in the operating temperature range the GPU. Furmark really does test a GPU as hard as anything will so its unlikely that you would see temperatures as high in games as you would in that test.

As to drivers strange that 8.8 works if 8.9 doesn't have you tried the drivers that came on the CD? It may be that they are slightly differnt and that Catalyst 9 will be the first to support the 4670, should be out relatively soon ATI are providing almost every month now.

    Re: ATI HD4670 Drivers?

    Hi,

Thanks for the reply I am glad about the GPU As for the drivers, they are the ones that came on the CD.

I am wondering if my card is just using some generic mode, or if the new drivers, when they are released, will be optimised for the 4670. Hopefully inch some stability and a bit more performance out of it

    Thanks for your help

    Re: ATI HD4670 Drivers?

I would guess that when the next set of drivers are released the 4670 will be included in the package and your stability problems should disappear.

You could always send ATi an email or post on their forums stating your problem they may have some beta drivers you could try?

    Re: ATI HD4670 Drivers?

If you want to try some newer drivers then you can get the 8.10 RC2 (thats 8 point ten, silly ati!) drivers from here,

    http://forums.guru3d.com/showthread.php?t=274850

These are beta drivers so may have some issues or they may work perfectly but if you fancy trying them go for it.

    Re: ATI HD4670 Drivers?

I tried the official 8.10's and I still have the same problems, though the strange thing is, games like World Of Warcraft run fine for hours on end, games like Unreal Tournament III and Bioshock crash within twenty mins of playing, I am starting to wonder whether the card is getting too hot and the fan is not kicking in fast enough or it is stepping down the clock bringing the game to crash?

Yeah I know but still doesn't explain why some games like COD4 play for hours and games like Bioshock and UT3 crash after a few mins.

Ah that's true, have you tried manually turning up the fan settings in rivatuner? I'm pretty sure the 2.11 version of rivatuner supports the 4670, turn the fan upto 100% just for testing purposes.

    Re: ATI HD4670 Drivers?

How hot does your gpu run?

EDIT: Just read earlier, my 4670 runs at 32oC idle and 55 under load!

Can i ask, what graphics card did you have prior to your 4670? Did you completely remove ALL traces of previous drivers?

    Re: ATI HD4670 Drivers?

I haven't manually tried setting the fan to 100%, I can do it in the new 8.10 catalyst drivers, so I will try that for testing purposes.

Yeah the GPU runs 44 degrees idle and about 95 degrees under full stress test load, not sure what it is in games. Again I will test that out too.

Before I had this card I had a X1950 Pro, I uninstalled the drivers using the ATI uninstall thing.

I actually received a quad core processor and mainboard yesterday, so I have rebuilt my system and have a fresh install of Vista on it.

I am in the process of reinstalling things so will retry UT3 tonight and see if there is any change.

I have already contacted tech support where I bought the card and they think the card is faulty but again will confirm all the above and game tests later tonight.

    Thanks for all your help

    Re: ATI HD4670 Drivers?

    Hi,

Ok, well I ran UT3 again, max graphics temp was 80 degress, fan max speed at that temp was 47%, the fan does go faster if the temp goes up, however, played it solidly for 30 mins and no crashes, so either I was just lucky, or it was the graphics drivers before that was creating the problem.

Will try other games later when I install them.
