ATi HD4870 or Nvidia GTX260. Both very similar the ATi being a shade better at AA and AF I believe, it is also a bit more expensive.

Re: Best gaming card for 250$

Well most of the cards are built in the same factory it's just warranty stuff to worry about.

    My favourties are,

    BFG
    EVGA
    for the massive warranties

    Leadtek
    Gainward
Just because I almost always get them, they are priced well and they have never failed me.

I would probably avoid MSI (I have a bad history with them..), gigabyte (..them too), Asus (due to poor service).

ATI card wise you can't go wrong with Sapphire, Powercolor offer good value for money and Gecube seem to pull out all the stops

Re: Best gaming card for 250$

In the EU the lifetime warranty is actually for 10 years (still that may as well be lifetime in computer components!)

And don't forget that the warranty only covers you more manufacturing failures so if after a couple of years it dies because your PSU was rubbish don't expect them to take it back. On the whole if a component is going to die from a manufacturing fault it will happen quickly (like the first few months or even days) if it lasts 2 or 3 years then it is unlikely to be a manufacturing fault or will you really care since you will have most likely upgraded the card.

Oh and the GTX260 is a bargain in the states about 30% cheaper than over here, most of the other cards can be bought for very similar money. Remember that places like new egg quote prices excluding sales tax which will have to be paid on top (like VAT here) but the amount depends on the state you are in.
