    Sapphire HD4870 pricecheck?

    Hi Guys,

How much is a used HD 4870 worth ('bout 3 months old or thereabouts)?

I guess I should be honest and advise that the cooler has been removed and thermal grease reapplied with MX2 (so I guess the warranty may be void? that'll affect the resale I suppose ) I wasn't happy with the temps I was getting, reapplying the thermal paste made a decent difference, so that's a good thing, right?

Would £120 be a fair price? Or wishful thinking?

Put it on fleabay you will probably get £140

Sapphire do not offer a transferable warranty as far as I am aware anyway so as soon as you sell it the warranty will be void

    EDIT:

    and

GPU or ASIC device (VGA) is sensitive to thermal (heat) issue. The heat sink or fan is designed to meet the requirements for reliability of the product and the warranty is rendered invalid if the product is dismantled or the heat sink or cooler fan are removed as this may causes damage to the GPU or ASIC device . Non-compliance will cause the warranty of the product to be void and repair will be at the users cost.
So the warranty is all ready gone, which kind a sucks but there you go.

    Re: Sapphire HD4870 pricecheck?

I just sold one of mine for £120 to a friend of a friend. Will be getting a 4870X2 soon.

On ebay they seem to be around £120 used. I think you should get that.

    Re: Sapphire HD4870 pricecheck?

Cheers chaps, you've confirmed what I already suspected, £120 is a fair price... not a bad return, 'only' a 33% deprecation in 3 months (or a measly 66p a day for gaming pleasure )

Only reason I'm selling is because it seems to be struggling a little at 1920x1200 (getting serious framerate slowdowns on C&C 3 when the action hots up, ie 40-50+ units running around at once on the screen with all settings maxed out... I'd have thought it could cope, but there you go!).

Maybe I should just Crossfire another 4870 rather than buying a GTX 280 or a 4870X2... I'll post another thread with just this question I think

    cheers

    Re: Sapphire HD4870 pricecheck?

The HD4870 1gb is supposedly much better than the 512mb version at high resolutions!
