Would 430watts suffice for an ATI4870?
I'm pretty sure it would.
Using the PSU calculator as a guide, it states that 355watts would be enough. I just wanted to know from you guys what your take on it is.
Now I just need to choose one...scan doesn't have any of the editions with the 3rd party coolers on them :(
I don't want to have to deal with the heat issue...its partly the reason I need to buy myself a new one.:angst:
Re: Would 430watts suffice for an ATI4870?
depends pretty much entirely on the brand of PSU..
what make would the PSU be? or what make is the PSU?
Re: Would 430watts suffice for an ATI4870?
Antec from his "system".
Plenty enough yeah, NeoHE's are pretty good from what I remember.
Re: Would 430watts suffice for an ATI4870?
COol beans - Now to choose one arrg. I dont know if I should get one thats about £180 or a £210 one with a 3rd party cooler!
Re: Would 430watts suffice for an ATI4870?
Get one with 1GB of RAM ;)
If you don't fancy they extra RAM then the Powercolor PCS+ is very good at keeping things cool and quiet. http://www.scan.co.uk/Product.aspx?WebProductId=860600 or the Force3D one here http://www.ebuyer.com/product/148210 for the best of both worlds 1GB and aftermarket cooling the Xpertvision Sonic http://www.specialtech.co.uk/spshop/...cat=930&page=1
I guess I would probably go with the Force3D or the Xpertvision and probably lean towards the Xpertvision the extra memory is probably worth the extra £20
Re: Would 430watts suffice for an ATI4870?
Hmmmm if I look at this logically and technically as to why I want it. I wont be gaming in anything higher than 1600x1200 - And Im sure that even then there isn't a need for a 1gb version. So saving a few bob there wouldn't be an end to everything.
With that said Ive never heard of xpertvision or that website its on! :/
Re: Would 430watts suffice for an ATI4870?
Anyone else noticed that they appear to be recycleing 7900gtx coolers on some of these new cards?
Re: Would 430watts suffice for an ATI4870?
Xpertvision and Palit are the same company if that helps and Specialtech are a decent enough company, I have never had any problems when buying from them in the past.
As to the 1GB or 512MB issue it makes more of a difference in different games but if your not gaming above 1600*1200 then I guess it will be less of an issue, you can certainly see a difference in performance at 1920*1200.

Ok, thanks webby.
Well you can clearly see recession hitting us. The sapphire card I originally wanted has gone from 181 to 191 to 196 in the past 2 weeks. Oh my!
