Hi guys,
I'm in the market for a 24" TFT monitor, and looking for some help. I've been hunting around Google, TFT Central, Digital Versus and (of course) these forums. It seems there are loads of options out there, and I'm struggling to find exactly what I want.
I'm mainly looking for gaming performance with a new monitor. I currently have a Samsung SM913N (8ms TN panel), and apart from the size it does me very well. An improvement in performance from this would be beneficial, but as long as it is at least as good, I'm happy.
I also watch TV and movies on my monitor, and would be looking for a good clean 1080 picture out of the new one - so no shimmery nasties and the better the performance in the very darkest of colours, the better.
Budget isn't a massive issue, as I haven't decided on how much I want to pay for it yet, and I'm basically looking to see what I can get for how much. Obviously noone wants to spend more than they have to, so bang-for-buck is definitely where it is at.
Finally, I'm in it to keep this monitor for the long term (like I have with my current one), so it needs a face I am happy to look at day-in day-out for years to come. Aesthetics are really the lowest priority, but they need to be there.
Monitors I've been considering so far:
- Dell 2408WFP - This has everything I could want and more, but the high input lag is a very off-putting. £398 - scan
- Hyundai W240D-PVA - Slightly uglier than the Dell and I can't find much in the way of info on it (only the W241D). Assuming this has the same characteristics, this looks very promising. £311 - OcUK (egh! )
- Hyundai W241D - As above, though probably a little too expensive. £433 - scan
- Dell 2407WFP - Harder to come by. Less features but less lag. Does anyone know the difference between the A04 and the HC models? ~£325 - ebay
- Acer G24 - TN Panel, so viewing angles aren't as good and the extreme response time makes me think it might shimmer. Also - ORANGE?!? - might take a bit of getting used to. £317 - OcUK
Any comments, additions, corrections etc etc are more than welcome. I eagerly await your expert opinions
