Nvidia cards and HDMI

Ok so my media box has a 8800GT and it needs a internal SPdif cable to route the sound from the onboard sound through HDMI on the card, now I understand these are very rare to get unless it comes with a card?
Now the motherboard is a 780g board so I could use that but I want to also use this box for lans and cba removing the card after a lan (i r lazy), so anyone know if a sub £120 card by nvidia that can do sound through it?

Nvidia all need the internal cable I believe. Why not ATI at that price point? A HD4850 would do the trick for gaming: http://www.scan.co.uk/Product.aspx?W...f+HDTV%2c+HDCP

I also use it for Folding so ATI is out of the question

You can fold on ATI cards as well you know.

You can but there no where near as good as Nvidia cards, the 8800GT I have folds about 1000 ppd more than my 4870.

So folding is more important to you than getting what you want in terms of hardware? As far as I know no nvidia card has sound through HDMI as they do not have onboard audio chips (like ATI do) so you are back to needing the SPDIF cable for pass through.

Ebay. Should only be about 70p as they commonly came with CD drives and are just a simple 2-pin cable. Or is the nvidia spdif different from the normal one for some reason?

Or you could make one yourself if you have any cabling around. Found this on another forum

do you have any usb add on io slot adapters that sometimes come with motherboards? or an old case and use the front control pannel wiring. those usually have single connectors and then splice.

edit: you could also cut those old rom 4 wire connectors into single plug ends.

Thank you, uddarts. I used the 4pin, snapped off the two end pins/connectors, filed it slightly so it'd fit the graphics card connector, and looked at a guide on the net to figure out which was ground/spdif on them (I can't get close enough to the mainboard or graphics card to read them at the mo). I now have sound coming through my TV from my PC using the DVI-=>HDMI cable, and through my PC speakers also so I don't have to switch between the two (like I've read some people have to).
