Are HD4670's overpriced in the UK right now?

I've concluded this is the card for me - perfect for a bit of light gaming on my 1600x1200 monitor.

However, the price doesn't seem right - if I compare it to it's nearest competitor, the 9600GT, in practicality, I can buy the 9600GT for only £5 more (My best price comparison is from play.com, of the Gigabyte 4670 v the Zotac Synergy 9600GT - I can't find any cheaper than this if I use the £5 off voucher code). Yes, the 9600GT is hungrier and possibly noisier too, but the performance difference in some games is quite substantial.

The 4670 is a lot cheaper than the 9600GT in the US - Newegg lists the former at around $80, and the latter $110, but this apparently does not translate here. Perhaps the newer card commands the higher prices? I'm in no rush, perhaps I'd be best to wait until after Christmas?

Everything is overpriced now. The £ has epically failed.

The 9600GT looks like a fantastic buy to me. Palit version for £67 on Scan today only.

graphic cards have always been overpriced in the UK, shame we don't have mail in rebates like our buddies in US do.

Buggeration!!! The Zotac 9600GT has rocketed to £84.99, only £5 less than the 9800GT version!

They most read these forums. I'm not going to tip them off again >:-<

P.S. Looks like I'll be waiting.

    What do you mean 'now'?

Everything has always been 'overvalued' in the UK, merely because the (then) plentiful supply of money, and vast volume of muppets who don't care about getting shafted.

I own this Palit 9600GT from scan, only £66 for so much performance . Just make sure you have a decent power supply with +6 PCI connector.

*EDIT* your earthwatts 380 should be fine

this is also good value for money:

Scan still hate Northern Ireland customers (no, we can't get the free delivery for Hexus members, after years of complaining)

It is not feasible to offer free carriage to Northern Ireland Customer's however so you can still take advantage of the discounts we are discounting the UK carriage costs from the total carriage cost of an order shipping to Northern Ireland.

To take advantage of this your account will have to be associated and the order must be placed over the sales line - 0871 472 4781.

For future reference, in the near future SCAN will be able to ship to any European destination and carriage charges to these destinations should also be reduced.

    Best Regards

Re: Are HD4670's overpriced in the UK right now?

Well, I registered on Scan and signed up for the 'free' carriage, and by my calculation, delivery of that Palit 9600GT card would be reduced to a 'mere' £11.54 inc. VAT for a grand total of £78.48, and to obtain this priviledge, I have to call a national rate telephone number - if I had more room (and cash) here, I'd do a few cartwheels....before then ordering a 9800GT or 4830 off someone else, for the extra £10-15 that would be.

Ok, there are whole threads dedicated to this discussion, and this should not be another one. Availability before Christmas is poor, demand is high, prices are high too, and I am a patient man....the search continues....

Re: Are HD4670's overpriced in the UK right now?

Ok, almost had a ECS 9600GT for £63 + low P&P off a small etailer called IT Bits, but they had an issue with their VAT calculation, I dallied too long, and they vanished from stock earlier today!

Peeved, I hit eBay as the only source I hadn't already checked exhaustively, and found a Gainward 8800GS 384mb BIN for £47, delivered. It's described as 'new', which would be a bonus. The seller isn't sure, but says it's complete. As long as it works and has all the bits with it, I'm happy.

I'll see how it goes over the Christmas period, and can always move it on again for much the same price in a month or two if it doesn't suit.
