    Crossfire 4850 question

Got a few quick questions about crossfireing 2 4850's on a P45 mobo. I play at a resoultion of 1440x900/1680x1050.

1.) Will i see much more benefit from my current set up?
2.) Will my corsair 620w PSU be hardy enough to power it all?
3.) Will an antec 300 be a good choice for a case with this setup?

    Re: Crossfire 4850 question

    1) you will be able to put the detail to all full on almost every game.. with full AA and AF; so you'll notice a difference in the detail of games.
    2) i have that PSU and i have 2x 4850 1GBs and a P45 board with a Q6600.. and it runs it without even breaking a sweat
    3) Antec 300 gets fairly decent reviews, just make sure you get some fans in the front and you'll be fine

Cheers, by fans at the front do ya mean ones to replace the 2 x 120's that are already on there?

    Re: Crossfire 4850 question

I've got an Antec Three Hundred, two 4850s in crossfire and a 650W Corsair TX PSU. The Three Hundred is a great case for two cards.

Oh, and you'll need to buy two front 120mm fans especially with two graphics cards because the case doesn't come with any.

what DDY said.. the case comes with the 2 exhaust fans, but it doesn't have any intake fans at the front, and you need them with X-fire cards in it.

other than that, not really heard a bad word about the case really, seems like an absolute steal at £40

You will see higher frame rates, but will you notice a difference... I reckon not. I moved from a 9800gtx to a 9600gt and I haven't noticed much difference at 1920x1200. The difference is certainly not big enough to justify an extra £80 of video card value... but then again i only play cod4/5 and tf2...

It will help in crysis like games - but that is about it. But who actually plays crysis? It sux

a lot of people suffer from the placebo effect. just because they can see a higher frame rate number "it must be better"... I suggest if you current setup can cope with the games you have at the settings you like, then a better upgrades are:
    -velociraptor/ssd
    -better screen

What temps are you getting on your cards?

And SiM, cheers for that, ive heard that before, my current card handles games pretty well and my current HD is more than fast enough for me, although i might contemplate getting a 24".

    Re: Crossfire 4850 question

Idles at 80°C and loads under 90°C but the 4850 fans are loud at this point.

It's also useful to have a 120mm fan on the right panel to extract some hot air since the 4850 single slot coolers just dump the hot air back inside the case.

And that's my main dislike about the ati 4850

they should supply free marshmallows and a toasting fork with each card.

    Re: Crossfire 4850 question

Very true, it's actually very difficult to remove a card after it has been running because it's so hot.

If you look carefully at my picture above, you can see a hot surface warning sticker on each of the heat sinks themselves.

Same here, but probably because it's the first card that I've owned where I've replaced the stock cooler. Ripped it off and stuck an Accelero S1 with 120mm fan on.
