    2 x 8800GTS 512MB in SLI BEATS 9800 GX2

Okay this may be old news for some, but I'll tell it anyway. I decided to chuck in another 8800GTS 512MB in my comp and I was pleasantly surprised that it actually beat a 9800GX2 which my mate has. Checked my score on 3D Mark Vantage, and it just about took the lead. If you have one of these cards and are thinking of getting another, it is well worth the investment

Pity there's no SLi support on Intel boards pre-i7.

well I'm not surprised the 9800gx2 is 2 8800gt cards slaped together. which are basically the same as the 8800gts 512mb but with fewer streams and lower clock speeds.

8800gt -> 9800gtx in SLi are probably the best bang for buck high end solutions (along with 4850 crossfire of course)

Yeah it should be £25 - £30 difference but the prices are changing quite frequnetly.. usually in the wrong direction.

4830 prices are £90-£100 with a few choices at £95, 4850s start at £115 now. When you have two of them CF 4830s are £190 CF 4850s £230 and £40 is a reasonable difference.

it should beat the 980GX2 as the 2 8800GTS' of the 9800GX2 are slightly downlocked to reduce heat

    Re: 2 x 8800GTS 512MB in SLI BEATS 9800 GX2

I must say, I'm quite surprised how much the 4850's price has rocketed recently, given that I paid £108 for mine in August, and raw material prices have started falling recently.

    Re: 2 x 8800GTS 512MB in SLI BEATS 9800 GX2

Yeah but the units are priced in dollars and the pound is worth less now than it was in august so prices have gone up The 4830 came to market when the pound was already a bit weaker so it has been less affected by the drop.
