    Good, Cheap 22/24" monitor

    Hey,
I've been reading the monitor threads recently but nothing has really jumped out, so thought I'd ask
Basically, I'm toying with the idea of a 2nd monitor, and would like basically anything above a 22"
I'll use it mainly for bbciplayer/films etc. (Would a high contrast ratio be good?)
    Want to spend around £150.

Just wondered if there are any makes/models that i should avoid/is reccommended.

Would like it to be fairly decent, but doesn't ahve to be excellent.

    Thanks!
    Adam.

    Re: Good, Cheap 22/24" monitor

So far I have narrowed it down to these:

    Viewsonic
    Samsung
    Acer

    Or:

    23" Dell

I'm not too sure on the 23" I have to say, not sure how well it would go with my 22" as I was hoping for a bigger resolution.

Any suggestions? On the specs, which is the best? I don't understand all the technical jargon

    Re: Good, Cheap 22/24" monitor

not really that knowledgable about those particular monitors you've mentioned since i havent really look for one in ages now. but a quick scan through and i'd recommend not getting the acer as it seems to only have analogue input and no digital (dvi or hdmi) at all. at 24" you really do want a digital input to make it look nicer

the viewsonic looks remarkablely like the DGM/yuraku monitor that was all the rage not too long ago. they were made popular by being a cheap PVA panel for about 200 quid when most others were costing alot more. but more recently they replaced the PVA with TN panels but kept the price the same so it's no longer a good deal. with viewing angle i'm thinking its a TN panel, and at a similar price you could get a better monitor.

can't find much on the samsung, but alot of ppl do buy their monitors so they must be doing something right...

As for the dell, there's a 24" version of that monitor for sale in the forums right now for 200 quid i believe.

    Re: Good, Cheap 22/24" monitor

That samsung is also d-sub only so I'd not bother with that ether.

For £150 that 23" dell is probably your best bet and a good deal.
not sure how well it would go with my 22" as I was hoping for a bigger resolution.
the resolution on that 23" is 1920x1080 (aka 1080p) which is the same as all the 24" monitors you'll find.
The screen is slightly smaller but the resolution is the same.

for only around £150 you cannot really afford to be that picky as you're at/below the bottom end of the 24" market. (you're looking at £200 generally for the low end 24")

    ps 22" is 1680x1050

What about that? It's a bit bigger, and looks ok. I'm looking at either that or the samsung, or this dell

Are any of them massively bad/unusable? Bear in mind I won't really be moving the screens, so once I have them set up the viewing angles aren't a problem.

    Re: Good, Cheap 22/24" monitor

that lg only has vga as well.... plus because it is 26" and still at 1920x1200 the pixel pitch is bigger meaning that the size of the pixels is bigger than on a 24". what this means is that the image won't look as sharp.

if you're looking to break the 200 quid mark and going towards the 250, then i would reccomend this one

    http://www.pcbuyit.co.uk/product2.asp?sku=204&deptId=7

not entirely sure how the samsung you've post is like. but from what i've heard of this dell its pretty good for the price

I have used two of those and both were really nice.

You might like to buy a DVI cable though, as it only comes with a VGA, though it auto adjusts realy well on VGA.

That monitor is very cheap for 28" and is worth consideration.

I've been looking at them for a while and they seem to get great reviews.

I'd hae thought the viewing angle limitations become more apparent with a larger screen but tbh I've never seen anyone complain about them so they must be good.
