Re: 4870 X2 overclocking..
wrong sort of forum here phill :P (as in most users here wouldn't think of spending that much on a gpu)
I wouldn't say alot of users have a 4870X2. Maybe one or two I'd say XtremeSystems would be your best bet to ask around there :D
anddddddddd Perfectionist proves my point a bit wrong :o
and then mike proves it a bit right
Re: 4870 X2 overclocking..
I have a brand new PC (as of friday) with 4870x2, tell me how to check the temp and I will - I have a G15 keyboard, have read you can do it on the LCD but not got around to researching specifics yet ;) I've no idea how to OC it tho
As for res, City of Villains it runs great at 2560x1600 on total max settings (not just detail but depth of field effects etc) usually 50fps-ish
Crysis, I did some benchmarks can see results here

Re: 4870 X2 overclocking..
Can't imagine why you would need to overclock one of those things especially for 1920 x 1200.
Underclock maybe :p

Well I use Riva Tuner to control the fan and I use GPU-Z version 0.0.3.0 (I think thats the version :)) to show the power ratings, temps of the GPU's, memory etc and it helps out quite a lot.
I'd love to own a 30" screen, but with all the hassles I read about having them, it kinda puts me off a little bit too much!! :( Which is a shame, considering my QX9650 might be enough to actually drive the damn thing!!
If someone lives around the West Midlands that can show me a decent 30" screen working right at 2560 x 1600 without any blur or ghosting or problems, then I\'ll gladly buy one!! :D

I can confirm from personal experience now that an IPS screen (since this is the best one, I'd say all of em) without ghosting is a myth
At the moment I'm probably going to be switching to a CRT again, can't play horror games/films with no proper darkness...

I just like to make the most of my hardware thank you!! :D ;)
Well I have read the thread in that link and it has put me off 30" panels for gaming which is just such a damn shame :(
Well never mind the X2 overclocking, how about some rig specs and what games your playing for starters?? :D

When the monitor res\'s rise they\'ll start making those GPU\'s powerful enough to handle games at high settings at those res\'s.
Re: 4870 X2 overclocking..
Well I was kinda hoping that my QX @ 4.6Ghz and a 4870 X2 would have been enough to be using it at that res!! :( I\'m just really gutted that they arent as good as I hoped they where :(

It's not the res that's the issue if you read the thread (the first link above about actual monitor, not the second one regarding PC benchmarks crysis etc), it's just the fact that LCDs seem to still be in their infancy compared to CRTs still sadly (I'd love to say it wasn't true because I was looking forward to upgrading to LCD before)

Ohh that one, I was responding to phill about the res's :P
Yes the LCD's still aren't as good as CRT's but.. once you start using them you get used to it and it becomes like normal (for me it has). What I am waiting for is the arrival of SED's. They'll have the pro's of CRT's without the cons :)
Re: 4870 X2 overclocking..
When are these SED's coming out Moogle?? Any ideas?? Sounds like our eyes could be in for a treat :D
Re: 4870 X2 overclocking..
Moogle: eh, I like being able to see in dark environments, it ruins it if you have to turn the gamma up to see basically. Companies should be more honest about this, and say that it's suited mainly for bright games (more mainstream games usually too, your average chav is used to crap like warcraft and would probably piss themselves even over something like FEAR)

Well last I was reading about it, it was said to be out during CES 2007 I think but I never hear much about it :(
I wish they'd spring it into production, but the industry just wants to pan it out slowly with LCD's then move over so they get more money I bet :censored:
Toshiba are developing it.
