hd4870 vs hd4850 cf
im thinking of upgrading my mobo but i dont know if i should get a crossfire mobo or just a normal one because i'm not sure whats more worthwhile hd4850 crossfire or just one hd4870 currently i own a hd4850 so if i get an hd4870 i will have to sell my current hd4850
so what do you guys think should i get hd4850 cf or hd4870
ps: i play my games at 1680 x 1050

Re: hd4870 vs hd4850 cf
I'd say sell your 4850 and get a 4870 and be done with it at that res!

Re: hd4870 vs hd4850 cf
Yep probably the best solution is selling the 4850 and getting a 4870, with your Q6600 your limited to X38 and X48 motherboards for duel 16x PCIe for crossfire which make it a more expensive option over swapping cards.
At your resolution crossfired 4850's would be overkill anyway a 4870 will be plenty enough for a good while to come.

Re: hd4870 vs hd4850 cf
cant u do crossfire with a 4850 and a 4870?

Re: hd4870 vs hd4850 cf
yeah but the 4870 will run at 4850 speeds which makes it pointless you may as well buy another 4850 and save the £60 difference in price.

Re: hd4870 vs hd4850 cf
Sort of agree with webby here.
from your "my system" you seem to be running a Biostar 7050v which is a geforce610 with on onboard geforce 7050 graphics.
It only has one pci-e x16 slot, which rules out two graphics cards also being an nvidia baord it wouldn't support crossfire if it did have two slots.
I think the main question is, do you need to update the card?
A 4850 should work very well at 1680x1050 and shouldn't be giving you major problems on games with all the options at max.

Re: hd4870 vs hd4850 cf
Yeah my 8800GT runs pretty much everything on highest settings at that res so im sure that your 4850 is fine.

Re: hd4870 vs hd4850 cf
I think an upgrade from 4850 > 4870 is pretty pointless. I'd simply stick with your current 4850 and wait til the next gen. Surely no more than 6 months away now.

Re: hd4870 vs hd4850 cf
Agree with the above, stick with the 4850 for now but if it was between the 2, i'd choose the 4870 due to less hassle with crossfire support and drivers etc.
