Powering a 9800GTX+

I'm building a computer for a friend on a pretty tight budget, a budget that has pushed me into choosing a 425W Hiper PSU with only one pci-e power connector. As you probably guessed from the thread title I want to put a 9800GTX+ in the system which of course wants two connectors. Do you think it would be safe to use a 2 molex to pci-e adaptor to power. The rest of the components are pretty low power: a gigabyte ga-73vm-s2 motherboard, single hard drive, single dvd writer, pentium D cpu (2.5 wolfdale) and two sticks of ram.
NVIDIA recommend a 550W PSU but according to X-Bit the card draws just under 120 watts, so if the motherboard supplies around 50W like it should being a PCI-e 1.x board the cards should only draw 70W directly from the PSU which should be fine with only one connector.
I guess all this info is somewhat conclusive but a second opinion would give my confidence a boost :stupid:

I suppose the second connector is just there in case the motherboard doesn't want to give any :O_o1: and if use the right rails then all should be good

I wouldn't recommend you to buy hiper brand psu, they tend to heat up & blow up when loaded to much...

connecting up from Molex should be absolutely fine.

well i have a Hiper PSU and so far it's actually better than the Corsair i had.
and i had crossfire running from this PSU

the older Hiper's had a reputation of going bang though :(

You could have got a 700w FSP for under 30 quid from Scan!!

Can't find that, and anyway 700W for £30 sounds even less enticing than the hiper, thought i may not be right to connect higher power with higher price :confused: I've used Hiper PSU's before and no problem so far.

Ordered one myself, looks to be a cracking bargain and allthough I am no PSU expert, think its safe to say FSP are more hihgly regarded than Hiper around these parts. :)

That's bacause it's on cheap normally it's £60 ;)
It's the OEM version of the FSP Epslion, one of the nice things about FSP is that re-produce there high end psu's as cheap no frills OEM versions after a couple of years :)

It is made by FSP and usually costs 60 to 70 quid normally! FSP is one of the biggest PSU manufacturers in the world!! They make PSUs for Dell and Shuttle for example!!
