Weird res... the low price/low response time implies that its a TN panel... so probably not good for photo/video editing...

Depends on the quality/level of photo & video editing
If it's just touching up & red eye removal from holiday snaps it'd be ok but for any professional work no (as has been mentioned above) also you'll probably want to get one of thoes monitor calibration things as well for profesional work.

Personally I'd find that dpi level too high

Looks very nice, which I had the money to replace my antec 24" with that. I'd drop an inch in size, but increase in every other aspect. Wierd resolution thought ? :S

As with all monitors if it is going to be used for colour critical applications then it will need to be calibrated. No monitor is shipped from the manufacturer with perfect colour reproduction, not even the Eizo monitors which cost £800+ and are designed for colour critical applications.

Generally for photo or video work a VA or IPS based panel is prefered these have wider viewing angles and originally had 8 bit colour while TN was limited to 6 bit with dithering, newer TN panels seem to be offering full 8 bit color and when calibrated offer very good colour reproduction. TN panels still suffer from noticable colour shift (colour change depending on viewing angle) particularly vertically so unless you are going to work with it directly in front of you they should not really be considered.

As a monitor for doing everything I imagine it is very good (I expect it has a Samsung panel) the low price (relatively) is really a reflection of the TN panel and the 16:9 aspect ratio (apparently they can get more panels per sheet) with the £40 reduction currently available I would say its a bargain and I am considering buying one myself

Yes it is another excellent monitor on offer from Dell!
Full featured if a little weird on the pixels.
Webby spot on as usual - this is a panel for the consumer market and very good it is too.
If you are working professionally on photo editing though then you should look elsewhere.

I presume this has conventional low colour gamut florescent backlight then?

Yep will most likely be 72% gamut which it has to be said is fine for almost everything.

Just as an aside you can find the Samsung 23" SM2343BW same panel as the Dell available for less than £175 delivered from Morecomputers.
