HD 4670 IceQ - quick question

    Hi folks,

After a bit of research (quite a bit on here, so thanks!) I've decided to buy a HD 4870 as it seems a good value card - I only have a 3.4Ghz P4 so I'm guessing much more might be overkill?

Found a link on here to scan.co.uk where they have a HiS HD 4670 IceQ Turbo 512Mb for £70 which I was about to order until I saw one on overclockers at £74 for 1024Mb (prodid = GX-104-HT)

Can this be right and if so, is it a bargain?

    Any comments gratefully received.

I assume you mean you are getting a HD4670 - not the HD4870 you stated!!

The 512mb version of the HD4670 will be good enough for your system:

    http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showpr...)%20-%20Retail

The 1gb will not deliver any usuable benefits. Only the high graphics cards are powerful enough to use 512mb+ of memory.

If your PSU is good enough a 9600GT will be more powerful although more noisier:

If you are lucky you maybe able to get a BFG 9600GT for 70 quid instore from PCWorld if they have any left:

It is worth checking your local branch as the online stock system is not accurate. Also check the price at the checkout as the shelf prices also are not always accurate too!

My local store also had a more powerful 8800GT for 80 quid too although again you will need a decent PSU.

The main advantage of the HD4670 is its lower power consumption and decent performance for the price!
