Re: "Upgrade" from HD3850 512MB Suggestions

Thanks for all the help. I've got some credit on ebuyer, so I'm looking to buy from there. Would anybody be able to suggest a PSU and Graphics card (leaning towards some form of HD4850) for around £150 from there, i'm not really too sure what to look for?

    Thanks,

    Nick

We talking £150 for both? If so your looking at £120 for the 4850 that leaves you £30 for the PSU up that to £50 and you will have a lot more options. If £150 is your absolute limit then it is probably worth waiting for Scan to have the FSP 700W on offer again goes for £30 then (normally ~£70).

Thanks for the reply. £150 isn't the top limit. That was just a ball park figure, so I'm willing to stretch within reason if there's a more suitable alternative

Re: "Upgrade" from HD3850 512MB Suggestions

Well power supply wise I would look at units by Enermax, Corsair and Seasonic in the 400-550W range prices from Scan unless marked otherwise.

    Non-modular
    Enermax Pro82+ 425W £48
    Seasonic S12 II 430W £49
    Corsair VX 450W £52 (£57 Ebuyer)
    Seasonic S12 II 500W £60
    Enermax Pro82+ 525W £60

    Modular
    Enermax Modu82+ 425W £57 (Ebuyer)
    Seasonic M12 II 500W £72
    Enermax Modu82+ 525W £73

Thanks for those. I'll pick one of those out. Is there a particular brand of graphics card that would be more favourable for me to get or could I just pick any of them and be in the same boat?

The main thing that really veries on the 4850 is the coolers, stock cooler cards will be the same, but there are a lot of cards with non-stock coolers (as the stock one is not that good

    From ebuyer
    £118 stock cooler Asus
    http://www.ebuyer.com/product/146705

    non-stock coolers
    £120 Saphire
    http://www.ebuyer.com/product/148468

    £122 Powercolor
    http://www.ebuyer.com/product/150390
(although there are a few complaints there in the review section, but a bios fix)

Re: "Upgrade" from HD3850 512MB Suggestions

The Sapphire is apparently quite loud in comparison to some of the other 4850's but if you fancy it still then check Pixmania they have it for £106 + Delivery (~£8) or this Xpertvision/Palit from Novatech for £115 the are varying reports on its noise levels some say its quiet others noisy as hell, it all depends on if the fan control works or not.

My money would probably go to whatever I could find cheapest (as I would rip off the cooler and add my own water cooling anyway) but if I was going stock air cooling I would probably be most tempted by Powercolors offerings.
