    Re: Running 3 monitors

I suppose though, the best route would be a new Motherboard with 2 PCIe slots on it, use his existing ATI Card and buy another ATI Card? Knowing what his existing card is (Force3D X1650Pro 512MB DDR2 DVI VGA TV Out PCI-E Graphics Card) what is the cheapest 2nd ATI card he could go for that would give him a good performance over the 3 screens and be compatable?

He is not fussy about the USB 2.0 TO VGA DISPLAY ADAPTER.

mannnn what a long winded way around.

So, lets get this bad boy problem straight in my mind.

He's got a 1600 XT and the drivers for that were incompatible with the other card you tried?

Would it be sensible, possbily to buy 2 new, cheap cards, and sell the X1600?

If you're seriously thinking about rebuilding the PC I think you'd be better off getting a 690G / 780G motherboard and using the onboard graphics + his existing X1650. I believe this is possible, although I haven't tried it myself... anyone got any experience running integrated + discreet cards together?

EDIT: that, of course, relies on his existing PC being AM2-based. What is his existing spec?

MORE EDIT I checked back the Hexus 780G review, which says this:

The 780G supports dual independent displays but one cannot use two digital outputs concurrently. Digital outputs can include DVI, audio-carrying HDMI v1.2 (via Realtek codec and driver), and DisplayPort. The eclectic choice of HDCP-certified outputs will be physically integrated to the I/O section on a per-manufacturer basis, so expect to see varying degrees of outputs depending upon board size (mATX, ATX) and partner.

The IGP-driven dual display can be complemented by a discrete ATI card's to offer a four-monitor setup, under SurroundView.
So you should be able to run at least 3 digital displays from a 780G + discreet X1650

Well, what is the PC for? Is it gaming? Or just 2d stuff?

Well, friend is using it for general PC work but mainly because he dabbles in the currency markets.

    Re: Running 3 monitors

well, maybe one of these will do it all?

    http://www.scan.co.uk/Products/512MB...Sub-DVI-I-HDMI

One DVI, one HDMI and one VGA?

If not, then add one of these

    Re: Running 3 monitors

Only has VGA Monitors and yes, i looked at the 2nd link but i can't see Scan getting hold of it as i can't find it anywhere on the net. I think it is discontinued.

My friend is still undecided about which way to go to get the 3rd TFT working.

The USB to VGA adapter in post 67 looked good but people say it is naff!!

So, at a stumbling block now.

Maybe a new SLI mobo and 2 identical cards might be best.
