32" LCD 1080p TV to big?

Thinking of moving my 32" 1080p tv from across the room and place it on my desk so i can free up the other one for my GF's pc. What i want to know is before i move it do you think it will be to big to use as a main monitor.

from when i've put text on it and watched it from the distance i would sit from it, it looks fine

Well if you think you can set it up so it isn't going to make you go blind I don't see a problem, how far away would you end up sitting from it?

Re: 32" LCD 1080p TV to big?

I'd say you'd need to be quite a further back than that...

I'm sitting 3 feet away from a 24" monitor with the brightness toned down low and that can still get a bit hard on the eyes over a long period.

That why i'm asking as i've got a feeling it may be to big.

I suppose i can always try it but in the time i've used it by gf will have taken over the other desk.

Re: 32" LCD 1080p TV to big?

Absolutely too big. I've got a 22" as my main monitor and that sometimes feels like it could be shrunk a little. Maybe if you do some non-standard setup where you and your computer are on a desk and the monitor is on a stand 2 metres away, that could work.

Wouldn't mounting it on the wall behind the desk be a better option?

The desk is up against the wall though so it would only move away about 2cm.

Plus i've moved it now and i'm trialing it over the nest week but so far its ok.

Just still adjusting the colours slightly.

To big IMO!! You'll have to move your head around too much when using it.

24" is the optimum size IMO

Re: 32" LCD 1080p TV to big?

I've had a number of 32" tfts (5 actually). At roughly 3ft viewing distance they were "ok". Even at that distance tho, they felt a little too big for PC use. If you intend to sit even closer, you'll find it very uncomfortable imo. We blokes never like to admit when something is too big, yet here is a thread full of such admissions. I'd take note tbh

I'm using a 37" 1080p set and I'm sitting a metre away from it at my desk. Perfect IMO.

Re: 32" LCD 1080p TV to big?

Just depends on personal preferance. I have a 24inch as my main screen, then i use my 32inch tv as a secondary, and i sit like 3.5 feet from both of them.

    Try it and see first
