What about crossfire HD4850's? They are very effective together and should be a lot less than that

Or an HD4850 X2 of course but I would rather have the seperate cards I think.

Re: which graphics card for £290

i'm pretty sure you can get 512MB 4870s for about £150 these days, so if you could stretch that extra £10 you'd be able to get 2x 4870s

Re: which graphics card for £290

thanks for the suggestions guys, im wondering now between a 4870X2 or x2 4850's in CF. Which would offer best performance?

EDIT: x2 4870's in CF - would that come close to an X2?

Re: which graphics card for £290

I wouldn't bother with a 4870X2.. very hot running card, i'd get the GTX285 if it comes down to that.

4850's in xfire will do a nice job as will the 4850X2, it's difficult to say whats better as differnt games respond differently to xfire but on the whole most react well to it now.

for your resolution, 4870X2 or 4870's in xfire is massive overkill imo.

Re: which graphics card for £290

I would suggest a 1GB 4870 plus something else nice! 1920 x 1200 doesn't really need more than that GPU.

It's true if you can grab a decent one under £200 (which you can) that is also a very nice card to have
