Ok I just purchased an Acer X223W but its way too bright and the colours are washed out, not a patch on my old screen. I would like a new 22" LCD for no more than $300 CDN, so suggest away.

You could consider a Dell monitor not up on Canadian pricing so recommending other monitors is going to be hard but Dell is easy to find pricing for
The 2 which are probably worth considering are the Ultrasharp 2208WFP $299 or the S2309W $269 (includes $40 discount). The second monitor is 23" rather than 22" but gets a significantly higher resolution for that 1" trade off. The Ultrasharp is Dells top of the line 22" so will likely have a lot of colour control built in although I believe the 23" has similar capabilities.
Edit: You may also consider the Dell 2209WA which is currently being released this uses an IPS panel which will give better colour and viewing angles but may sacrifice a bit of refresh speed. UK costs ~160+Tax so at current excahnge rates that falls at about $300 Canadian as well.
Edit 2: Review of the 2209WA http://www.cnet.com.au/desktops/moni...9294389,00.htm

Thanks for your suggestions regarding Dell screens. I was surfing last night and discovered the Viewsonic VX2260WM and ordered one of those after reading several great reviews, I will be picking it up tonight and testing it out.

Thing is, i read that image sharpness / quality is better on a 20" TFT than a 22" using the same resolution. Is that right?

Sort of, it's the same number of pixels, they are smaller on a 20" (I'm sure webby will pop up with the actual numbers)
There's also issues about the type of pannel used and such.
Here we go copied and pasted from another thread(Link)
Hopefully that covers everything, more pixels per inch generally sharper image but text etc is smaller so its a balancing act.Originally Posted by Me
