    no signal received

    My mates pc says no signal recieved does it mean the gpu is dead?

    Not necessarily. Could be a problem with the monitor itself (normally the power supply inside it), the GPU (overheating or power spike?), the power supply dead/dying, capacitors on the motherboard degraded, or their sibling/neice/whoever took the monitor cable out, or the screen res was set too high and the monitor decided to say that message or your mate has mis-described it.

    As a last resort try clearing up the CMOS..(at least twice) just to make sure..one time I had this problem that was the solution.

    Also if it is not an integrated graphics card, the card may need reseating.
