Depends on the monitor, if it is a large one and can take 1600x1200+ at a decent refresh rate, they should match up pretty damn well, if it is anything smaller than it may be worth thinking of a 4830 or lower.
On the other hand, if you are building the system and planning on upgrading your monitor at some point in the near future, then getting a 485(7)0 could be a wise choice.

A friend of mine has a 4850 on a 19" CRT. Runs perfect and he will be upgrading to TFT pretty soon. Either way you are safe and both cards are great performers at 19-24"

Got my 4870 512mb running 20" monitors, game at 1600 * 1200 and all is good.
And I'm fairly sure that if I upgrade to 24" lcd I'll still keep similar performance.

Re: 4850/70 on a CRT Monitor?

Its a 19" Diamond pro 920 and I usually run it at 1280*960 and about 85Hz I think.

I do intend to change to an LCD in time but not just yet as the i7 system parts are getting expensive enough as it is for now.

    Thanks for your comments.
