Difficulty: Easy
Usefullness: Depends on the purpose of fitting one, for general use on a desktop, not really useful.
Cost: For a 23" screen, a fair bit I'd imagine as the price of the panels seemed to go up exponentially with size when i was looking at them for a computer based DMX controller
Where? GOOGLE!! =P or fleabay
I used http://www.protouch.co.uk when i bought some panels for the DMX controller
Didn't TAKTAKTAKTAKTAK add touchscreenness to his EEEEEEEPC?
Maybe that route is an option?
Yes

only you could decide...Quote:

A lovely exponential increase means that it is ~£400+Quote:

What could be quite fun is getting a 10" or 7" one, (hooks up via USB) and you could just use it as a touchpad sort of thing... Or get a small monitor to use with it so you have the display as the background and embed it into your desk...
You seem to know a fair bit about the subject? A project were working on may need touch screen monitors but I think £450ish for a 12" monitor is going to bump up a unit price too high for our customer, how much cheaper do you think it could be done by getting normal monitors and adding touch screen ourselves?
Not at all, only from what i picked up while preparing my eee
The main problem, is that the bigger the screen, the more points of reference it uses, therefore the more complex the control board needs to be, therefore the (dramatic) price increase.Quote:

Also the type of touchscreen can also be a factor dependant on application (resistive/capacitive) causing more influence on price...

As to whether it would be cheaper to DIY, at the lower screen sizes (using resistive) yes ,but for higher (using SAW[?] or other) then probably not...
You can pick up some decent deals on complete units every so often though, the main problem is finding somewhere that sells them...

Well, how useful is it at the moment to have fingerprints ALL OVER your screen?
Cos I HATE IT! The sunlight shows up everything, so the one time you need a clean screen (spring time, first sun for months), you cant see anything except marks and dirty bits... and that's with NO touch screen....
