An overclocked HD4870 will give similar results which is expected as the HD4890 is an overclocked 4870 ;-)
I wonder how much overclock can the 4890 achieve?
Here is a picture with the rumoured overclock edition:

Supposedly it will be clocked higher than 900mhz for the core and has a 6 pin and 8 pin power connector as opposed to the two 6 pin connectors of the normal card.
Looks like the overclocked version can hit 1ghz for the core:

Apparently, most 4890 will OC to 1GHz+ on the core and 1100MHz memory, due to better power regulation. I hope that's the case, otherwise it'll be a pretty disappointing card.
The new core is coming out in a couple of months: RV780 I think (although CAT will no doubt correct me if I'm wrong) and it looks like that will be used for a 4900-series, with the new mid-range GPU (RV740) being used in a 4700 series. So yes, the HD4000 range will include 4300, 4500, 4600, 4700, 4800 and 4900 variants. Wonder what 4400 thinks about that...

Sorry!!
I believe the "new" core for the HD4890 is called the RV790 and is out already it seems(the official release is next month) and the RV740 is the new midrange between the RV740 and the RV770 and RV790.
The new generation GPU will be called the RV870!!
I will probably will be called the ATI 5000 series unless they do an Nvidia!!
The timeline has not changed yet...or has it??
Maybe Nvidia's constant rebranding has a reason!!![]()
