Anyone feeling like trying XFX again?

Because Scan have the 4830, by XFX, with a twin slot cooler (what I think they always needed to ventilate properly) on TODAY ONLY at £78.19 inc vat.
    http://www.scan.co.uk/TodayOnly/Index.aspx
NOW THAT'S A BARGAIN.. in fact TWO OF THEM would be a storming setup.

Re: Anyone feeling like trying XFX again?

What is a 4830 on par with on the NVIDIA side? Scan and XFX special warranty procedures are one of the reasons I wouldn't want to try them again. Maybe their ATi card's aren't as DOA as the NVIDIA ones but I don't think I'd ever return.

Perhaps - but i'm working on a budget - and my current spec is only 6600 agp - so surely it wont be that much difference?

swhat I said, iddinit? OK for films and rubbish for gaming.

I'd also risk soundling like a big girly and say that most onboard video can be bettered for image quality in photo editing too. Sadly.

Re: Anyone feeling like trying XFX again?

    hehe

Yeah I really should read posts properly before replying

Probably right about the image quality, though it's a lot less of a problem with onboard DVI/HDMI. The two 780G based systems I have are cracking, especially when they are only about £60 for the board with a 3650 (or something like that).

Can't say I've ever had a prob with the XFX cards I've had. I would still use them.

Umm you do realise you cannot put a pci-e card in an agp slot?
Or are you looking at a total system upgrade?

The 4830 is on a par with the 8800gt/9800gt

I've personally never had a problem with an xfx card so no comment there, however I will say that from what I've seen so far that xfx cooler is very good and it looks good as well.

    For £78 it's a very good deal

that's what I thought/read too.. good to see a cooler better than standard and a great price too.

Re: Anyone feeling like trying XFX again?

Actually the HD4830 is faster than the 8800GT/9800GT in many games. The HD4830 can be overclocked to 650mhz+ for the GPU core very easily. At similar clocks to the HD4850 the HD4830 is only around 10% slower.

    It's a full (although process-shrunk) discrete 2400, ACTUALLY

Hexus reckon it's OK for gaming at 1024 x 768, so those of still running 15" CRTs will find it acceptable... anything over that and you're looking at discrete though. I've trawled the old hexus reviews which strongly suggest that moving to a 780G motherboard's onboard graphics from a 6600GT 128MB AGP would pretty much *half* your framerates at 1024 x 768. Your real problem with upgrading, though, is that AGP slot. To get a genuine upgrade to that you're probably looking to at least a X1650Pro (£40), and maybe a 3650 (£55 - £60) or 3850 (£95)!

Using that example is like searching for medical problems on the NHS forums

Edit: Meaning your going to find issues rather than praise on this as its a Care forum.
