Second Hand 8800gt for 50 quid.

Just been offered a 8800gt for 50 quid, sounds like a good price to me. I was wondering how much slower it is than a 250 gts or 4850? I'm using a 19 inch monitor@ 1440 x 900 and am only looking for something to play the current games well for the next year (or less), will it do the job?

The less you are, the less you express your own life, the more you have, the greater is your alienated life, the greater is the store of your estranged being." Karl Marx

It's not that much slower. Maybe 10fps max. It's the same core as the 980.. err I mean GTS 250 (). That resolution doesn't seem so demanding so I don't see why it won't play what you want unless you're looking to play everything on high with AA/AF maxed etc.

    Probably!

A quick scan of hexus reviews suggest that the 8800GT will perform passably at 1440 x 900. You might want to turn a few of the detail settings down in newer games, though...

Re: Second Hand 8800gt for 50 quid.

The 8800GT should be fine for most games at lower resolution especially if you overclock it!!

Basically the 9800GTX+/GTS250 has 16 stream processors more and higher clockspeeds for both the core and the RAM IIRC.

You could always put the extra £50+ saved towards one of the newer GPUs coming out next year.

Check this comparison out between the 9800GT(a rebadged 8800GT),9800GTX and GTS250 1gb:

    http://www.techpowerup.com/reviews/G...50_1_GB/9.html

    You are looking at a 20% to 30% performance increase using a GTS 250 1gb over a 9800GT 512mb.

From an actual player perspective, yes, as long as it's the 512mb one not the 256mb one
    £50 good price

There quite a few people on here who happly run 1680x1020 on a 8800gt

I wouldn't get the 256mb version unless it was well under £50. I think that an 8800GT/9800GT or an HD4830 are both very good buys under £60.

Decent enough card that and alright for £50.

    (you can take my 8800GTS G92 512mb for £20 more though )
