Re: Another.... which GPU
You're in luck, the shiny new GTX 275 is available for £200, it even performs close as dammit to the £300 GTX 285 :)

My 8800gts 512 has blown up and i need to replace it asap. current using a 24inc tft, 4gigs of RAM, q6600 @ 3ghz. Dont really play recent games, but like to play older games at max settings and res.
So could some one please tell me what gpu to buy. budget is about £200 not bothererd if its ATI or Nvidia.
Thanks
The GTX275 or HD4890 will do the job nicely. However make sure that you have a decent PSU of at least 500w though as both consume a lot of power in 3D mode(especially the GTX275).
Both are powerful enough to play even decent games at good settings. If you want to spend less than an HD4870 1gb or the 216 shader version of the GTX260 will cost £160 and under.
I started a thread with reviews comparing the HD4890 and GTX275 so I would advice you to look at them!!
Funnily enough I had an 8800GTS 512mb which destroyed itself too!!:censored:
Re: Another.... which GPU
I was looking at both the new cards released today. both card would be stretching my budget and my psu. Could save some money and get the 4870 or the gtx260 and put the money aside for a more powerfull psu.
Think i will sleep on it.

The HD4890 looks like it has very similar power consumption to an HD4870 1gb.

Your PSU should handle both the GTX 275 or ATI 4890 as they are basically only improved versions of the GTX 260 and 4870. There should be some good deals on the 'older' cards, as retailers attempt to clear their stock. It's a great time for us consumers!

You already qualify for it.
Let us know how the card install goes ;)
Re: Another.... which GPU
Should have gone for the 275 IMO.
Re: Another.... which GPU
Should have gone for non of them if you just want to play older games, i spent 50 quid on a 9500GT and it plays everything lovely on max settings well when i say everything i mean
Cod2
BF2
BF2142
CCS
Doom 3
and doesnt do to bad on Crysis on medium settings
i suppose it depends by what you mean by old games :)
