    Which HD4870 graphics card?

I am planning to buy a HD 4870 graphics card and I can not seem to pick one. I would like one that is fairly quiet and has good cooling(exhausts hot air from case as well) so which one would you's recommend I have found this but is there any cheaper alternatives.

    Re: Which HD4870 graphics card?

Hi, I brought this over the bank holiday - PowerColor HD 4870 1GB GDDR5 Dual DVI HDTV Out PCI-E Graphics Card @ £148

I have no idea what it's like as I haven't received it yet but I read some good reviews after a Google search and the price was to tempting to miss-out on.

The spec is indicating a slightly faster CPU speed to the Vapour X and it's a bit cheaper...

Plus you can get free P&P if you dont mind waiting a few day's for it.

All the default coolers are quiet and exhaust hot air from the case, so just go for the cheapest one

I'm not sure I'd call the 4870 coolers "good" though, given the temperatures the cards run at!

In the reveiws I've read it seems that the better one to get is the PowerColor HD 4870 PCS+ version which is more expensive.

See above posts..... you get what you pay for at the end of the day, if you want a higher spec card then pay more.

The PCS+ is higher clocked and has a better cooler hence the price being more.

Depends what the consequences are - if a chip's fine with running at certain temps and all the heat is taken out of the case then I don't see a problem.

What sort of temps do you get with the PowerColor HD 4870?

    Re: Which HD4870 graphics card?

They are quite good temps.Would the temps be OK in my Antec Sonata 3 case if I get a HD4870. as my x1950 temps are: PCB Temp= 44°C, GPU Temp = 57°C and that's at idle with the fan at 41%.

I've got a Powercolor 4870 1gb, temps are very similar to Peter's, maybe a touch cooler.

I am not sure if the temps have come down at load but I'd look at £ vs warranty aswell.

    Re: Which HD4870 graphics card?

How is pixmania for returns? As they have this which is the lowest price for this card that I have seen. Also is there any nvidia cards at all that have the hdmi with audio built in or is that only ATI Cards?
