    New graphics card

Wanted to play the odd game on me HTPC but due to space/noise,running cost wanted something which met my needs, lookin at one of these and wanted to know if anyone had any experience with one and what sort of gains i could expect from it:

At the mo got a 780g motherboard so would i get abit extra out of a ati card due to crossfire or is the crossfirex system diffrent??

Once you have over 20 posts at Hexus you should be eligible for free postage from Scan.

The HD4670 Ultimate will be cheaper from Scan as a result:

    http://www.scan.co.uk/Product.aspx?WebProductId=972825

It is a good card from the reviews I have seen:

    http://www.overclockersclub.com/revi...4670_ultimate/

    http://www.hardwarecanucks.com/forum...rd-review.html

However the XFX HD4830 for £75 is a much better card for games:

    http://www.ebuyer.com/product/159719

    http://www.novatech.co.uk/novatech/s....html?XFX-4830

However it is a larger card, consumes more power and will produce more heat than an HD4670.

    Re: New graphics card

A HD4830 is very strong for CoD, and is a very good choice for light gamers. IMO nothing can touch a PC in gaming, just so much more interactive but everyone to their own.

Would be useful to know how much you have to spend, and what resolution/ AA you run games at.
To be honest, for a HTPC an nvidia card might suit you. Their idle power draw is much less, about 30-50% which helps with running cost and also will offer same performance at same price points, and with around the same load wattage.

Actually the HD4830 has lower power consumption at idle and load than an 8800T/9800GT. Also the HD4830 can output sound natively over the HDMI connector unlike the 8800GT/9800GT.

    Here are some comparative reviews:

    Re: New graphics card

if you buy the gtx260 you won't get sound through HDMI unless the card has the cable to connect to your sound card

    Re: New graphics card

By the way for 100 you could buy a 4850 and downclock it (so less noise, heat and power) when you don't play. I have a gtx260 and it is a big card so not suitable for all HTCP
