Talking The Best Monitor for the job?

    Hey guys how you doing?
First thread, hopefully it will be fruitfull.
So, i have a Laptop with HDMI out, and DVI-I port. I just bought an xbox 360 and have a VGA cable for that.
So, i need me a monitor.
    Specs i would prefer:
Inputs to be HDMI, VGA and possibly DVI.
16:9 widescreen for some 1080 action
    HD
In the range of 20" to 24".
    LCD TFT
I've looked around all over the place for a good discussion about this and there aren't many.
Most people have been swaying towards the Asus VW246H,

    What do you all think?

    Many thanks

    what about this http://www.scan.co.uk/Products/22-II...2ms-200001-DCR

i've just got one and can recommend it, i thought about the 24" version but couldn't justify the extra outlay - but the 22" is big enough.

It's not bad, but like staffsMike mentioned, there are tons of such monitors in the market. I use a 24" BenQ myself! I think it's superb! And on top of that it comes with a 3 year warranty, I'm not so keen on the warranty policy with Asus, so I can't help you with that, but I am aware that not all monitors in the 22"-24" range offer 3 year warranty, that's one of the reasons I chose the BenQ E2400HD over the other choices.

Check out this link I have provided below. It's to a E2400 HD review. It'll probably answer most of your questions, otherwise you can ask me!

Re: The Best Monitor for the job?

I recently bought the Dell 2209WA. It's a 1680 * 1050 22" screen, so its close to the kind of resolution you're looking at. It's biggest selling point however is the e-IPS panel. It has amazing viewing angles and great colour reproduction - superior to nearly every other 22" screen, and it has better latency than my HP w2207h (not a great monitor I'd admit). And yes it has VGA and DVI. I know its not quite full 'HD' but its close. Besides, 'full HD' is just a marketing brand, and your 360 won't output more than 720 lines of game detail anyway.

Re: The Best Monitor for the job?

Actually I just realised my monitor (2209WA) doesn't have 1:1 scaling which might make it inappropriate for the Xbox 360 (unless the 360 can be set to 16:10 with letterboxing, there will be mild vertical stretching to fill the image unfortunately).

BenQ seem to have some great monitors out, the BenQ E2400HD looks pretty wicked.
Iym assuming all these monitors have component inputs?
Also, Olmi, you sure about the Xbox only putting out 720p? On back of the games it says HD range from 720 - 1080

Was looking at amazon shopping Trends and The Samsung T240 seems to be the pick of the bunch on there.
    E2400HD Vs Samsung T240?

The Dell is good but it's not 1080p like "olmy" mentioned hahha. And yea it's 16:10. 16:9 is ideal for Xbox. And Xbox does 720p and 1080p.

The Samsung T240 is certainly a hot pick these days, but it is once again 16:10.

The BenQ E series is great! The 24" may be a better pick as you get that extra 2 inches to widen your view

You should also look into the BenQ G2412HD, it's fairly new (March 2009)!!

And yes, both the BenQ E2400HD E2200HD and G2412HD all come with HDMI, D-Sub, and DVI

Most games are rendered at 720p (or less, I think GOW and Halo is 480p) 4xAA and upscaled to 1080p output. The Xbox 360 is too weak to render 1080p across the board.
