I would recommend looking for a 17" lcd second hand, there are a few going about. I got the Hitachi 17" for £250 all inc. and I must say I am very impressed with it...plus it looks a lot bigger than a 15"

The words "gaming", "TFT" and "under about eleventy billion pounds" don't go well together in the same sentence in my opinion. Buy yourself a lovely CRT instead and spend the rest on something nice

I have to second the above post. Infact I wouldnt bother with a TFT when you can get 21" new condition CRT's for £40 + delivery, yes, I do have one

I received delivery of an Acer AL1714 (17" 14ms) tft monitor yesterday, which has the same panel as the Videoseven L17ps at ebuyer, made by CMO.

I'm not entirely sure what other tft monitors are like, but coming from a 19" sony trinitron crt, it's definitely different for games.

It doesn't blur or ghost as such, but running a game at 100fps feels laggy somewhat, but locking the fps to 75fps (monitor runs at 75hz), removes this laggy feel. I believe this is because 14ms/1000 = 0.014. Then 1second divide by 0.014 equals 71fps, which is near enough 75fps. Similarly for 16ms panels, 16/1000 = 0.016, then 1/0.016 = 62.5fps, ok for 60hz.

The monitor cost £280inc vat from simply, but I got the 10% off for using their website, so it came to £252inc (257inc del) which is very reasonable. (edit: just seen the acer isnt on the simply website anymore)

If you managed to get the 10% voucher (before 21st march), then it's a good buy. The monitors further up in price have 25ms response times and the iiyama's 16ms at £315 are in stock in black.

I bought one for going to Uni with, and I'm really glad I did. 21" CRT's take up a shocking amount of space, you need a huge desk to put them on :O
