Silent Graphics Card with HDMI Built in

I have had a 3850 for a while and at the moment it seems the 4xxx series is most attractive.

I'm ideally looking for a silent single-slot cooling solution with native HDMI, i.e. so I don't have to use a dongle or converter. I think the 4xxx series are the only ones that do LPCM High-Def Sound iirc.

Anyway, I wouldn't be looking to spend any more than £70, I currently have a 3850 so would be looking for performance to be on par with that.

Ideally I would like a 4770, but as they are so new they all seem to be reference design, dual slot and no native HDMI.

If you look in the recent forum threads, there's a passive 4770 in the works. Other than that, the 4670 you linked to is the only one I'm aware of.

Guess your other option would be to fit an after market heat sink to a different card.

Am considering the same gfx card myself to a replace an ATi Radeon X1300 Pro 256MB as it's rubbish and can't handle 1080p .mkv files. Clicked on the second image on Scan page and the heat sink looks pretty big! Anyone know if it will take up two slots of just the one?

Would be interested to hear from anyone who already owns one, pro's/con's etc?

The graphics card may not help with 1080p .mkv files, it all depends how they were encoded and whether the software you're using will offload to GPU.

Not sure how they were encoded but I'm presently using VLC player. Likely to offload to the GPU?

Depends on whether the codecs in VLC are coded to use the GPU. VLC uses it's own codecs that are built in so you can't use external ones AFAIK.

Media Player Classic Home Cinema has it's own internal codecs (which you can deselect if you want) and they all support DXVA so will offload to your GPU if the file is encoded correctly.

Cheers for all your replies guys, I;ll have a proper look when I'm back from HK. I'm surprised that the component prices aren't that much cheaper over here compared to the UK market

Isn't a 4730 coming out soon ? You could wait and see what that offers instead...
