    Further HD4850 price cuts!!

Looks like there will be further reductions in the price of the HD4850 since the HD4770 is in short supply:

Hmm, what would the price be here then? The vapour X 4850 is £87(was £80) will it be lower than the offer of £80?.

    Re: Further HD4850 price cuts!!

Because some of us are using older technology again than the ATI 48XX series of cards. sadly to adopt new tech when it comes out first is stupidly expensive.

I've never paid more than £150 for a graphics card.

Ill never make the same mistake again!. I bought an 8800GTS 512mb for £180! that was apparently a good price lo. Now i can get a 4850 for £80 thats cooler better and about 70w more efficient!. Im upgrading to the 4850 to save on power and then im upgrading in about 2 or 3 years time unless it costs only £10 more after selling.

You think you got screwed? I paid just shy of £200 for a factory overclocked 8800 GTS 320
just over 3 months later, the 8800 GT came out that was faster, had more video RAM and was £40 cheaper. I wouldn;t have minded but had it came out 2 months later I could have used EVGA's step up program to replace it with the 8800 GT!

I've just upgraded it with a 1GB 4870 for £120 and I really don't care about the 5870 this time as there is no way it's going to be much cheaper adn the 4870 can play all current games at 1920x1200 playably at max detail. When I got the GTS320, Crysis slaughtered it at max details.

    Re: Further HD4850 price cuts!!

Wonder how the etailers / partners feel about this? "Sorry lads, we can't make enough 4770s for you, so why not just sell our other cards at lower prices so you get less profit margin on them?" Wouldn't go down well with me. Even if ATI are charging less at source for the 4850 it's still going to cut those expected margins. After a triumphant launch, the 4770's kind of gone downhill...

Also, has anyone noticed how poor a value proposition the 4670 has become in all this? You still can't get one for much less than £60, and with the 4830 price crashing it looks massively overpriced... Come on ATI - pass the value on to us in the lower end!!

i have a growing itch to snap up a second 4850. a 70 quid upgrade from a 4850 to a GTX280-equivalent sounds great but i really don't need it so i think i'll hold out for the time being. <scratch>
