I'm using a 4770 for my 22" and although limited by my slow processor, it can pretty much run anything at this res.

GTX 260 or 4850/70 1GB.
Now thats over lets all go on a bike ride.
..in a supermarket
I would recommend a HD 4890 (currently £139.99 at overclocker.co.uk). A GTX275 is slightly better but costs ~£35 more.
For a lower budget a XFX HD 4870 1GB (XXX version OC to 775/3800) is also good @ £117 from Novatech.
Personally I would go for the HD 4890 in case you get a 1080P HDTV in future.
I think I will go with the GTX 260. For two reason:
1) Future proofing. I have know intention of upgrading my monitor for quite a few years. So the GTX 260 ought to last a while. (At least according too this thread).
2) It Nvidia. I do coding in my spare time, and im quite interested in CUDA technology and its potential benefits.
