Need Help Buying Monitor???
Hi everybody...
I was looking to spend around £150 or under for a new monitor, I will be using this in my new gaming rig that will have either a 4870 1gb or 4890 GPU (depends on price). Also i would like one that will give me HD quality on my ps3.
Btw i have very little knowledge of monitors so go easy on me if i dont understand
I know the budget is tight but what can i get for this price???
Re: Need Help Buying Monitor???
How about this BENQ from ebuyer? 22", 1920x1080, DVI / VGA / HDMI, 2ms response time, £146.
Re: Need Help Buying Monitor???
much appreciated , anyone with any other suggestions....
Re: Need Help Buying Monitor???
Yeah, I would think you'll be looking at 22" monitors with full HD resolutions (1920x1080) at that kind of price bracket.
The one that scaryjim suggested would fit the bill perfectly.
Re: Need Help Buying Monitor???
I'm a little biased towards Samsung, I always think that their monitors are always worth a look. I love the one I've got 2053BW I think it is, got it for £125 from ebuyer when everyone else was selling it for £170 :)
That said the price of 22 and 24's have come right down these days, I was reading Computer Shopper (May's issue) and the Digitmate and Iiyama displays were good value for money, the Benq also came out quite well too from what I remember, didn't get to finish reading the reviews as I had to then put the magazine down and sit in the barbers chair and get my hair cut.
Re: Need Help Buying Monitor???
just found this on ebuyer
BenQ G2410HD 24" TFT Monitor (and its in budget £152)
http://www.ebuyer.com/product/159782...roduct_reviews
Is this any better or is the 22" better as suggested by scaryjim
Re: Need Help Buying Monitor???
Encouraging user comments there, good price too :)
Re: Need Help Buying Monitor???
I'm a bit confused about the description on ebuyer
BenQ G2410HD 24" TFT Monitor (http://www.ebuyer.com/product/159782...roduct_reviews)
it says its "full hd", and it can be used with a ps3,
but it doesnt seem to have hdmi. I'm no expert, but doesnt that mean its not full hd or not compatible with ps3???
Re: Need Help Buying Monitor???
No, you don't need hdmi input for HD or PS3. You just use an adaptor to convert to DVI-D which is the input this monitor has.
Re: Need Help Buying Monitor???
Of course, if you're using it for both PC and PS3 and it only has one DVI port you'd need to keep swapping the cable (or use VGA for your PC) - the 22" has native DVI and HDMI so you could keep both the PC and PS3 plugged in all the time...
Re: Need Help Buying Monitor???
For you I am going to make the same recommdation I made here.
I would recommend you spent a little bit extra and get this E-IPS panel from Dell when it is back in stock for £216.05.
Re: Need Help Buying Monitor???
As I've been recommending the same thing over an over again, hahah I will do it again. Just like NightKhaos, except I think NightKhaos missed the point that you're looking for external connection. Yes I mean you can connect consoles (Xbox, PLaystations) via DVI, but HDMI has better quality and has both Audio and Video. That's why most people refer users to pick HDMI for consoles over DVI.
As for your recommendation, I definately second "Scaryjim's" recommendation on the BenQ E2200HD, as I use it myself. It is a great monitor and has everything you need on it. The E2200HD has a bigger brother at 24 inches (E2400HD).
If you were considering considering G2410HD, I would recommend you spend a little more and get the G2412HD, which is the newer version of the G2410HD, but with the HDMI port, which is definately useful. Trust me it's a pain if you have to keep unplugging and plugging between your PC and consoles if you only have one port (ie: DVI only). The E2200HD, E2400HD, and G2412HD all come in full HD 16:9 display!

The audio comment is a good one (DVI connectors can carry audio, but most monitors don't bother), but what do you mean by better quality? Digital is digital right?
Re: Need Help Buying Monitor???
OH, sorry, I just read what I wrote and realized how confusing it sounds. I meant HDMI has better imaging quality (digital) in comparison to d-sub AND it's better than DVI cause it carries both audio and video. So yes HDMI would be the better choice. Thank you for picking out that error in my explanation kalniel, hahah. I appreciate it!
