good decision
Another quick question; if someone could answer this I would be grateful.
I was going to get a 520hx PSU: http://www.scan.co.uk/Products/520W-...-year-warranty
But am tempted by the 450hx which is ~ 20quid cheaper: http://www.scan.co.uk/Product.aspx?WebProductId=909753
Can the 450w run the 4890 with no problems? I've read somewhere that it would need a miniumum 500w, recommended 600w !?!? But I can't find anywhere confirming this... gfx cards are so god damn confusing
I was going with...
- Gigabyte MA770-UD3, AMD 770 @ £56.87
- AMD Phenom II x4 940 Black Edition @ £131.09
- 4GBs Corsair 1066 DDR2
- And a 4890, probably the XFX 4890 XT, or possibly the Sapphire Vapor-X... still undecided
But i am unsure about what PSU to go with... from the reviews I'm going to go with the Corsair CMPSU, just unsure whether to get the 450HX or the 520HX for £20 more...
Going to throw it all into the Antec 300 case, due to the extra fans Might give me the option of turning down the gfx card fans to keep the noise down, but without raising the heat to much.
All purchased through Scans, because I want their cover, just in case I f*(&*^ the build up! Which is what I did when I was 16 and first had a go at building my own pc... fried my new mobo and chip due to setting the wrong jumpers as a 16 year old who had saved his cash, i was absolutley gutted.
just got the antec 300, and similar setup as yours, going for a 520watt corsair modular psu.
amd 955 black edition
sapphire 4890 vapor-x
4gb ddr3
single sata hard disk.
single dvd/cd drive
5 case fans
the 520hx should do the trick, spend the extra £20, gives you a bit of extra room if you want to add another hard disk, usb devices, fan controller, if your thinking of going crossfire then go for a 600w+
(imo).
450W will be plenty to power your system, without any issues at all. The Hexus test system pulls up to 260W at the wall with a 4890 in it - for comparison that's a Core i7 965 EE, 6GB RAM on a Foxconn KitchenSink motherboard If you were considering crossfire later on the 520 would probably be up to the job - if you're not considering crossfire then there's no good reason to get a more powerful PSU - you'll have pushing 200W headroom already!
