24' or 26' Monitor with good viewing angle.

Looking for either a 24' or 26' (PVA preferable?) at 1900x1200 resolution, used mainly for gaming on my GTX 260.
I have an LG 22' but the viewing angle is pretty poor (contrast changes too much when i move around) so looking for a larger screen with excellent viewing angles if anyone can point me in the direction of one please. Reasonable priced of course

There's a few Samsungs, LG, Dell and Viewsonic so the choice is aplenty. There's a lot of threads on 24' i know, but the viewing angle and response time are important for me.

    Cheers.

The HP 2475W is an IPS panel and less than £400 IPS panels are way better than PVA panels when it comes to viewing angles.

Re: 24' or 26' Monitor with good viewing angle.

If you have around £400 an HP LP2475W(H-IPS panel) or Dell 2408WFP(S-PVA) would be great but then these monitors are not exactly cheap.
If you want great viewing angles you will need an IPS,PVA or MVA LCD panel in the monitor.

If you do not mind staying at 22" the Dell 2209WA is around £200 and has an E-IPS panel.

Another vote for the Dell 2408WFP, very highly rated monitor and the one I would pick if I had the money.

    Thanks for the suggestions

Not sure if my budget could quite stretch that far but any other less expensive suggestions are always welcome too.

Wow, i'm having quite a hard time finding one that fills in all my criteria (that aren't too expensive that is)..i've made a decision about 50 times only to see something i wasn't keen on..lol..mostly the terrible viewing angles of most TN panels. (including the one i own..one slight move up and down and the pictures deteriorates).

Anyway, any more suggestions would be very helpful

Budget up to about 300 quid.

The HP LP2475W can be had for under £400. I know it is expensive but this will be an excellent monitor which will last you for years. Also it will have a decent resale value too as a panel with a decent IPS panel will still be sought after even in a few years.

The HP 2475W can be had direct from HP for quite a bit less than £400 if you take advantage of money off vouchers and cashback (Quidco / site of choice).

(Right now, QuidCo appears to be offering 8% cashback from HP {it seems to vary between 3 and 8%}, plus a 10% off voucher. Assuming you get the cashback {not 100% guaranteed, but I got mine, and Quidco appear to be pretty good about chasing non-payers eventually}, then that's 18% off the sticker price of £371+VAT, which brings the price down to £350.)

It's a fantastic monitor: lovely wide viewing angles & good colour reproduction after a little fiddling with the colour settings. There's a good review at tft central if you want the gory details.

    cheers, Phil

I wish I even had £350 free!! I guess I will have to stick with my 20" P-MVA Phillips 200W6CS monitor. It does have a nice design though and it was very good value for the money I paid for it two years ago!!

Well, it's better than paying £450 I guess. I agree it's still not exactly *cheap* though.

I keep my monitors for years and years, so I try to buy decent ones. I imagine the HP in front of me will still be there in three or four years time...

Thanks very much..it very much seems like it's 'you get what you pay for' doesn't it. Will have a look through more threads and reviews before making my decision. The two mentioned monitors do look great so thanks for the feedback everyone.

Re: 24' or 26' Monitor with good viewing angle.

Just as an aside to my post..i'm wondering why my TN panel budget AOC 27 inch LCD TV doesn't display any of the awful viewing angles of TN monitors? I can watch it from a vastly wider range of angles without showing any detrimental effects. LCD-TV TN panels are different?

    Anyway thanks again.

Re: 24' or 26' Monitor with good viewing angle.

Also many of the TN type panels are 6 bit whereas the IPS,PVA and MVA panels tend to be 8 bit.

Once you start using a monitor with an IPS,PVA or MVA type panel you will see the big difference in image quality.

I would go with the HP LP2475W as it is very good for the monitor and will still have a decent re-sale value in the future IMHO unlike the el-cheapo 24" LCD monitors which have a TN type panel.

Re: 24' or 26' Monitor with good viewing angle.

Have you thought about the BenQ G2412HD? It comes with 1920x1080 resolution. 1000:1 contrast ratio. 2ms GTG response time, so it's prefect for gaming, and it has great connectivity, especially if you like gaming via other consoles. It supports HDMI, DVI, and D-sub. It also has the BenQ AMA technology built into it. And the monitor itself is drop-dead gorgeous = D

Here's the manufacturer's website for more info:
    http://benq.com/products/LCD/?produc...specifications

The only down-side is that you won't have as great viewing angles as IPS panels, since the G2412HD uses a TN panel, but it will definately be cheaper than it's IPS panel competitors. And it seems like money is a problem in your choice for monitors.
    Intel Core 2 Duo 2.0GHz, 2 GB DDR2, 500GB SATA-II 7200RPM, nVidia GeForce 9800GT 512mb, BenQ E2200 HD, BenQ G2412HD, Logitech S510 Wireless set, Creative GigaWorks T3 Speakers.

I agree with the Muppethat. I've looking around the £250 mark and have narrowed it down to the Samsung T240 or the Benq G2400WD.
Viewing angles are pretty standard though.
    Society's to blame,
    Or possibly Atari.
