    Problems with new GPU installation

Just installed a new card but having a few problems. The screen remains black throughout, and when the PC comes on, it beeps once for a second followed by 3 short beeps. It does this as it restarts 3 or 4 times. Eventually it will boot and get to the windows login (i can type my password and get in) but still the screen remains blank. Anyone have any ideas? My PSU is a corsair HX520. I'd of thought this would be powerful enough. Cheers.

Find out your BIOS version and see if you can find out what the beeps are signaling online or in your mobo manual.

    Yep forgot to mention that:

    Asus P5B-E PLUS
    Core 2 can't remember model
    4GB Corsair RAM (can't remember model but it's 1066)
New card is a Asus GTX285 TOP
    PSU Corsiar HX520

    Anything else you should know?

    Cheers

Oh forgot to mention, GPU fan seems to spin at full speed the whole time too.

Re: Problems with new GPU installation

Well closest description in the manual is 2 long beeps followed by 4 short beeps which is 'hardware component failure' problem is the beeps dont really sound like anything described in the manual.

Have you plugged in both power connectors into the gpu? assuming it needs both?

    Yes

Just checked an AMI BIOS document online and it has the beep code combination i'm talking about, though it states the manufacturer can and does change these. It says a 1,3 combo means you should reseat the RAM apparantly.... which didn't achieve anything.

Seems like it's faulty to me? Never had a problem like this with a GPU before. Power requirements seem fine.

Re: Problems with new GPU installation

seems to be a fair few people with video card issues at the mo.

Can you borrow a higher rated PSU from anywhere?

Re: Problems with new GPU installation

    Things to try
    reseat graphics card.
update BIOS (some had issues with pci-e 2.0 cards)
unplug everything and slowly start replugging, ie just plug in graphics and 1 memory stick, no hard drives, other cards or usb devices, try to boot, does it give error bleeps? then start plugging in one extra bit at a time and booting.

You did uninstall your old graphics drivers before you swaped card right? (granted that will not effect boot issues but will effect windows)

Re: Problems with new GPU installation

A 520 Watt seems a bit low for that card, im sure my GTX 260 box said recommended 40A & 650 Watt supply.

Oh to clear this up, turns out the card was bad as originally suspected.
