    HD 4890 or GTX295

just about to order a new card and just wondering what to get, I had a HD 4890 which was faulty but when it did work it seemed to run whatever i wanted it to gaming wise, so would there be any point in getting a GTX295 or would a HD 4890 run anything I need to for the next year or so or would I be better spending the extra and getting the GTX295.

    Cheers

    Re: HD 4890 or GTX295

I'd go with the 4890 as you might find that with DX11 coming you'll want to upgrade sooner than if you had a GTX295. It's also half the price!

    Re: HD 4890 or GTX295

+1 for the 4890. Or even the 4870x2. They're both a cheaper option while you wait for DX11 sometime in 2010.
    Society's to blame,
    Or possibly Atari.

Agreed. If you do want to upgrade with DX11, consider the 4870 too. Not much slower at all and fewer pennies.

    Re: HD 4890 or GTX295

You mean 4890 vs GTX275, not 295 - not comparable. The HD4890 every time, it's so cheap, and still very powerful.

No, i meant get the 4890 or go for the better option of the GTX295 but, as the 4890 is so cheap now I think I'll go with that and wait for the new cards, didn't know how good the new cards would be and if it's worth getting the GTX295 to last a couple years then upgrade.

    Re: HD 4890 or GTX295

The HD4890 and GTX295 are nothing alike, one is a £150 high-end single GPU card, the other is a £350 top-end dual GPU card. The GTX295's rival is the HD4870X2, and the HD4890's rival is the GTX275. In both cases I would take the Radeon for mostly the same reason - memory.

Ebuyer have an XFX 4890 for £130, according to their latest eblast. I think they've made your decision for you

I wouldn't worry too much about Direct X 11, I'm guessing that we'll need the power of the next generation of cards to utilize the new effects/features anyway.
    4890 @ £130.....bargain.

My experience of the GTX295.....fast, but too noisy, sold it and went back to my trusty 8800GTX as I've laid off gaming for a while.
